An 18 year old cant improve his skating

Sure but how much risk do you take when looking at someone's skating as a project with a top 9 pick? It's a bigger risk than picking a 170 pound player in today's NHL no?

I don't see it to be that bad.

Absolutely, but the top ten D class this year is literally defined by superb skating, why take the worst one?

The same can be said for Zadina who tested one of the worse for forwards in the top couple of rounds. He'll go top 4 though.

Don's TSN rankings has Hughes at 9, which is the lowest I have seen to-date.

Getting the 3rd overall pick would be a tough one for me. I think I would go Tkachuk over Zadina at this point.

I see that. I knew that would happen. He's a college player and college is long done their season. While we are being dazzled by the Junior and Euro playoffs and the worlds coming... college players are done.

Hughes was climbing when he was still playing. Quite a bit actually.

Tkachuck already showed up in college with special attention because of his brother and of course he's a power forward. Not like his numbers are eye opening or anything. His skating is also average. Still a tantalizing prospect though. He's going to hold that 3 to 5 spot regardless.

Hughes at 9 would be pretty good. More or less where I have Bouchard which I'd still be happy with at 9.

Tkachuck is scary proposition. Building a third line out of the top 10 of the draft is a bad idea ala Jake Virtanen.
