I hate Jim Benning, I'm sure if he ever met me or knew I existed he'd hate me as well because I'd smack talk that mother(frank)er so bad

I’m not a fan of his either. Credit where it’s due, he is exellent at finding young talent. I think that alone is why he keeps his job.

Imagine if Gillis took Theodore instead of Shinkaruk, we'd have our top pairing dman right now. That still pisses me off!!!

Canucks have a lonģ history of taking a player and the next player or 2, become legit nhl players.
The year we selected Ken Ellacott and Art Rutland, 1979, in 3rd and 4th round, the players selected right after turned out to be pretty decent.

Subjective, I only think he's just average at it. Sure Boeser turned out great but one kid doesn't negate four years of so-so drafting.

Years later, when he’s pumping your gas, he will still have the boat...

Gaudette is also a guy who they identified as a high potential guy with a smaller role in his team in his draft year. Jasek looks to have some pro future, if only in the AHL. They have taken some chances, but to your point, they also took Gunnerson...

Interesting updated list. If one thing has become evident, it's that there is a huge drop off after 9. We are guaranteed to pick 9 or better. I don't care where we draft. Still like Bouchard the best after the top 3 forwards.

I would also be pleased if we select Wahlstrom between 6-9. He isn't a center though Boqvist is the only guy I want to avoid.

no he doesn't. I find Bouchard talk hilarious. One scout says he can't skate and the next one raves about his skating. Idiots

edit. I think the fact the kid has to play 30 minutes per night on a garbage team leads people to think he is a sub par skater. The kid is bagged out there!

Watch some tape dude, kid's mobility is garbage.
Speedy forwards will tear him apart.

So Benning needs to get the Canucks relocated to another city. A new owner needs to come in and pay hundreds of millions for a new expansion franchise. Then they hold an expansion draft where all NHL GMs are inexperienced with the formula. And then create a roster that is entirely made up of quality 2nd line NHL players, 2nd line Dmen, and an all star goalie.

That sounds easy to accomplish.

I know. Tanking is the difficult way.

Not in the 5th round, on a regular basis. My point is that he has found value in the later rounds where most teams struggle. Go back and read the comments from when Gaudette was drafted. He was definitely an "off the board" selection, and Linden said on a number of occasions how they felt that he just hadn't been given the opportunity yet, and that in the right situation he could be a very good, and much more offensive minded player. And they were right. No guarantees that he will be a high end offensive talent in the NHL, but that he's made it this far is pretty good don't you think? I think comparable players to Gaudette are generally picked in the 2nd/3rd round no?

Now, in the 1st round, not so much, which is troubling.

I think people are watching too much of him on the PP to be honest. I agree with you, I see him as slow by Junior standards 5 on 5. I think unless his skating gets special attention, it's a potential problem. With that being said, I still see him as 1st PP unit. I have 4 dmen and 4 forwards ahead of him.

Draft and develop, don't know him but its all in the character and will to be the best they can be, jb looks for that if he likes the upside.
