But There’s certainly a strong argument to be made of keeping that pick/young talent and those cheap elc years considering the current cap/team circumstances.
As I mentioned, can’t really acquire much without also getting rid of significant money

On a side note- if they are in fact willing to get rid of risto, gotta think there might be some serious issues with him as well.

On keeping the pick, I view it as either trade it and continue making the same kind of mistakes that put us in this mess or keep it and understand that the next year or two aren't likely ones where we'll be winning a Cup. For the next year or two, resolve ourselves to competing for the playoffs and getting experience while building for a future where you can actually compete for the big prize.

As for Risto, it's one of two things if I had to guess: 1.) they're worried about his consistent inability to outscore his opposition and his overall lacklustre possession numbers (whether rightly or wrongly) or 2.) they're a bad team doing stupid things (something we know all about).

I think Ristolainen is a definite upgrade in ways that we need. Overall, they're pretty close if you observe the context of their whole careers and view traditional and less-traditional methods of evaluation on equal standing.
