I agree.
Karlsson will be 29 at the end of his current contract. He is currently at peak performance and the most reasonable expectation is that he has 3-4 dominant years from there. He is best suited for a team that can win now.
A reasonable offer is 8 x $10M, which would make him the highest paid defenceman in the league.

good post

I've said it before and I'll say it again, IF the Sens offer Karlsson 8 x 10.5m and he declines then I can live with that

Birthdates are important.

Brady Tkachuck Born September 16 1999 played 40 games 8 goals, 23 assists

Alex Formenton Born September 13 1999 played 48 games 28 goals 19 assists

Shane Bowers Born July 30 1999 played 40 games 17 goals and 15 assists

I do not like the Tkachuck pick at number 4 overall. He is only 3 days younger than Formenton. I expect he will drop between now and draft. The kids with the early date birthdays usually do. The kids with the later date birthdays tend to rise. This is especially true for kids who rely on a big body to carve out their role. 6'3" and 200+ llbs gives you great size advantage in college. It means nothing in the NHL.

Big mover based on late season and playoff performance is Noah Dobson (Jan 2000).

Boqvist and Quinn Hughes are also late birthdays. Evan Bouchard is an early birthday (Oct 2000) who has had a very solid season. If Montreal or Carolina do not take a Dman the Senators should take either Hughes, Dobson, Bouchard or Boqvist.

In terms of available forwards my pick would be Wahlstrom (June 2000) 51 games (USHL) with 39 goals and 39 assists. He is someone who appears to be on the rise. He has an outstanding shot and produced spectacular numbers. Only Austin Matthews and Kiefer Bellows have had better USHL numbers.

Based on today, my D pick is either Hughes or Dobson. But, if Dobson takes his team to the Memorial Cup I don't think he will still be there for the #4 pick and the Sens could be looking at Zadina.
