I think 2C is a core position, and I think ROR is an elite 2C - jcragcrumple

Doesn't Okposo have a no trade ? He's not going anywhere. - fastek
He has a modified NTC, I believe. He has a 10 team list |

You're moving the goalposts a bit. You mention RORs salary a ton, but when I mention that it isn't a problem if we get rid of the quasi-useless money elsewhere, you deflect.
Moulson and Pommer come off next year, only a bit of patience required.
Bogo will be moveable at the deadline in a year and a half.
Okposo will be moveable if he has a rebound year, or even this summer if we throw in a prospect.
We don't need the cap space now anyway. ROR will still be moveable for a nice profit. As it is, every year that the cap goes up, and he keeps getting his 20g, 37a, his salary looks better and better. Let's solve the problematic contracts before we open up holes by moving useful players - jcragcrumple
At some points he's not going to get there. Maybe he gets hurt, maybe he loses PP time, maybe he loses ice time/o zone time. If they don't think he's a key piece here long term, we're unnecessarily gambling each season.

LW Depth: Erod, Wilson, Girgensons, Nylander,
RW Depth: Reinhart, Okposo, Bailey, Pominville, Baptiste, Pu, Fasching, Oglevie
C Depth: Eichel, Mitts, ROR, Erod, Asplund, Pu, Malone, Girgensons, Larsson
LHD Depth: Dahlin, Scandella, McCabe, Guhle, Pilut, Beaulieu
RHD Depth: Risto, Nelson (maybe), Bogosian, Borgen.
G Depth: Ullmark................
If Risto is moved we are franked on the right side. We have nothing on the left side forwards wise. Reinhart seems to be apart of the future. ROR is a piece that can be moved to bring in a LW or a RHD that helps improve the organization. Yes I have Erod listed at LW and C cause he can play both as well as Girgensons, that is not an error.
ROR, Reinhart, and one of the LHD have to be looking over their shoulder at this point IMO. Unless we are throwing a boat ton of money at FA to fill holes on this roster. |

He's more durable than people give him credit for, and even when he misses 10 games a year, he still gets his 20g. He's our best PP goal scorer, so he's not coming off that anytime soon. ROR, Eichel, Dahlin, Risto and Reinhart will be lethal. People forget he helped get us to the number one PP.
As to your last point, it's not really a gamble. Teams know what he is, and they know his other attributes. He's 27 and his contract runs till he's 32 so there's no risk in keeping him. He's an alternate captain for Canada. All the other stuff - doesn't take penalties, faceoffs, etc. - you know. The dude is good. Get him a winger along with Reinhart. Scott Wilson doesn't count.
All that said, sure,, listen to offers, but ROR for picks 8-15 is insanity. That's trading a lottery ticket for your 125k a year job. |

He's been durable, but injuries happen. He's also getting older, past his peak as far as NHL-aging goes. 15 PP was probably a fluke for him, he's never been over 8 before.
I don't hate him, I don't think he's bad. If Jack and Casey are both centers next year, RoR takes on a more defensive role out of pure necessity. His ice time also drops, which is probably a good thing. It might impact his stats. He might play better next year, and put up fewer points.
I think if you just want to keep him around for 1 more year, you're gambling.

Montreal is so desperate for a center I don't think it is out of the question to trade 3OA straight up for ROR. I wouldn't trade more than that for 3OA, maybe add 32nd OA but even that seems like a little much. The only other option Montreal has is to draft TK at 3 and hope he turns into the top center that they need. That still has Zadina, or Svech if you believe Cane's fans falling to #3-4. |

I mean, pick 15 by itself is light, but a top 10 pick for a guy who seriously shouldn’t be your first or second best forward is a damn good return |

I'd add a ton to get #3. I hope he tries to get it.

Friedman - I think the end of the season was so jarring for the #Sabres. With what was said and what happened, there are some questions as if O'Reilly is available
