This is insane and fully never going to happen, but, man, do I love his optimism. - RafiDRW
Jesus (frank) Not only are they gonna entice all of Tavares, JVR and Carlson to sign at below-market value, they're then gonna follow that up by icing a D corps and top-6 packed with rookies? |

I like derek Ryan and Calvert. Both would be solid additions.
And maybe those are the only type of pieces we Can afford. But those probably offer Incremental improvements at best.
I firmly believe this team needs far more than that.
So With that said- kreiders the only one on the list that is actually enticing.
Same on defence, tvr is nice and all, but why bother getting him without jettisoning russel or sekera first? And in that case, it’s a net 0 at best |

I think that's my aim with the overall series. Incremental improvements at various positions that'll lead to a stronger team overall. Having already gotten rid of Russell in this hypothetical, adding TVR would offer a great balance to the D corps.
Nurse- Larsson
Klefbom- Benning
Sekera- Van Riemsdyk
I think incremental improvement in most capacities will be enough to get the team back to competing.
I've laid it out before but if you make the PP and PK from last year league average, you eliminate ~26 goals (+14 on the PP; -12 on the PK) of our negative differential- even if we still see the fewest PP opportunities in the league. Add the boost of confidence that Talbot and our other goalies might get thanks to NOT getting scored on every other PK at home and I estimate you could likely subtract half of those 12 goals on the first shot. That pretty much takes care of our minus goal differential and gets us back in the fight for a playoff spot. I think these are all pretty reasonable presumptions on my part.
From there, it's a matter of adding a skill winger (the Nyquist or Kreider), the further development of Puljujarvi (or Yamamoto) and seeing even a slight resurgence from Lucic to hopefully drive the team's 5-on-5 offense back to top-5 in the league (only a 13 goal jump up from 11th this year). Without even adjusting for the poor execution of the defensive systems at 5-on-5 from Oct to Jan or accounting for a bounce back for two of our better Dmen (Sekera and Klef), the team is within reach of a playoff spot by my estimation.
I'm sure a number of other things can and will go wrong, but I think it's important to recognize just how much special teams sunk this season. It'll take some work but it's not as massive of a chasm as it feels like right now. |

Pens cry foul. They get a big suspension.
Despite the vast majority of hockey people saying it was clean. - Iggysbff

Someone needs to enlighten me-
Sounds like slepyshev is gonna sign in the k.
Now if we qualified him at whatever the going rate of salary increase is, can we block him from playing there? Or do we just retain his nhl rights and he can go where he pleases?
If the latter and he didn’t wanna sign here anyway- well not much we can do I guess. His deployment/unhappiness maybe abit on tmac I guess.
If it’s the latter cause chia diked around, it’s another huge miss as he’s exactly the type of cheap, no brainer, low risk, high reward resign a team with our cap sitch needs
If it’s the former, get that sh1t done like yesterday chiarelli
For a team bereft of talented wingers/much in the pipeline, Losing him is a blow imo. |

Oilers retain his rights regardless because he's an RFA. He can (frank) off to the K if he wants though. |

How we didn't get more than Strome concerns me.... We gave up a 1st and 2nd to the Islanders for an unproven Reinhart and we gave up Eberle for a down trending Strome. It looks like Strome is a solid third line player at absolute best. - Reveen.
Looking at in the worst possible light-
We gave up eberle, barzal and beauvillier
For
Strome and a couple years of Reinhart In the minors

I'm confident the Oil would have picked Barzal but they probably would have whiffed on Beauvillier because they tend to draft band aids in the 2nd round. |

I just saw the hit for the first time and I have to agree with Iggy... totally clean. I actually just watched the Demoulin hit and have no idea how he never go suspended for that one. I think the NHL is doing a make up call. - Reveen.
Wait for the make up today - a Pens player is going to get a misconduct or suspension or some poop just so they even things up a little.
I don't expect a non Pens fan to think the Wilson hit was dirty - that's just how it rolls here.
You could look up charging though, rule 42 I think. |
