Bro... The team was just so terrible they weren't losing on purpose they were just that bad

The Good Karma from us not purposely tanking got us the first overall pick

- gerbe75pts

And nylander is a super star.

Listen, watch the turn around. 25-30 point swing this season. Maybe more.

Then tell me this mess wasn't on purpose.
They didn't advertise the tank this time.
That's what got them the top pick.

Also: the thought of the nhl losing buffalo fans. Buffalo is a hockey hotbed, and its slowly been distinguished.

He didn't secure Dahlin, the lottery did that. And it's much easier to be last place than first place, change my mind lol.
- RhinoFan

It's easier to be in last than first, for sure.

But to finish dead last and not have anyone really saying " those Sabres are tanking" takes creativity on jbotts part.

I'm surprised that no one thinks this was a stealth tank.

Just an opinion.

Tpegs would be on board, been there done that

So now you're telling me that draft was rigged so we would win ?

Everyone in the summer predicted the Sabres to make the playoffs I was the one that said they will be trash

But at no point in the season did this team purposely tank

Nope. Reinhart is the best player in that deal and he's only getting better. Adam Mascherin is a ??? and years away from an NHL impact. 3rd and 2nd rounder we're good on. And, Weegar, is a 7th round bottom pair guy. Nick Bjugstad is okay, but Sam is better and has much more upside.

We need to add as much high-end talent as we can, we have enough role guys/low cost bodies already. Trading Reinhart for this is a step backwards.

- sskkoo1

For what it's worth, Mascherin scored like a first rounder in his draft year and I think he led the OHL in scoring this year (or was top 5/10)

The draft lottery could easily be rigged. Corporations "rig" stuff. It happens in the real world.

It's a multi billion $ business. Who knows if the nhl assigns players to struggling teams? It would make more sense, from a business standpoint.

You predicted trash, I predicted tank.

I'd say it was a good combination of both.

Do you really think the Sabres as an organization did anything major to win?

There's your first problem, guy doesn't know poop about hockey. I remember him saying Stamkos was going to get a max deal, and he was pretty certain about it.

Yeah, he had a heck of a year, but he is an older player in the OHL now. Cliff Pu had 2 good seasons after being drafted as well, but I'm not about to trade Sam for a package with Cliff Pu as a main cog.

Sam is hitting his prime and with Dahlin, Mitts, and Guhle all being on the team next year, I can see him taking a big jump, 60-65 pts, maybe more. Nothing in that Florida trade is worth losing that. If Sam had issues here like Kane in Winnipeg did or RoR in Colorado, maybe we'd have to consider the trade, but the Sabres are in the driver's seat here.

Pu draft year 31 points, 63 games played

Mascherin 81 points, 65 games played

Not a good comparison IMO.

Mascherin produced enough to warrant going in the top half of the draft. Scouts had some concern about his development but he's taken steps forward each year.

Bjugstad and Reinhart scored about the same this year as well i think. I don't think Reinhart will suddenly become a point per game guy, he is what he is.

I probably wouldn't do this deal either, but it's a lot closer in value than it seems.

Man I like you a lot but you're starting to sound like you have a tin foil hat..

Key points if they were taking
1) why did they not stop Jack from coming back?
2) why play Casey
2) why play Nelson
3) why bring up Brandon Guhle
4) why play Ullmark

It took them April 4th to clench last place but yet they were playing all their star players they could have easily missed out

I like you but don't be a tinfoil hat dude and say that the lottery was rigged for us

The bills need to sign Jordan Palmer and make him the QB coach

I didn't realize their QB coach hasn't coached a quarterback in 22 years

And it’s not like our OC has a track record of developing QBs either
It’s a legit concern, even for those who do like the Allen pick

He basically went with the wild card I don't think anybody here thought Casey was the pick there's no way..

He could have went the safe route but he did his own thing that's a good GM/Scout

- gerbe75pts

Casey was a top 3 pick pre draft. I don’t think anyone picked him because they didn’t think he would be there.

I will have to look at the rankings but I'm pretty sure none of us wanted him

I know 365 hated the pick like the plague

I was really keyed on Nico and Vilardi , Tippett

so with how disgusting our Left Wing is at the moment should we be looking to bring in a guy like JVR just to add some more depth there?

If he puts up the same ppg as Tim Connoly and played 75 games a year I would love Nylander. Don’t think he will be that good though.

Garth seems to attract more leafs fans than sabres fans.
