Would love to see shooing percentages since the halfway mark of the second quarter.
What do you think? 60% to 30%? Game 1 all over again - Giroux_Is_God

people here complain about the Flyers moving too much talent out then turn around and say that Voracek should be traded for a "Richards and Carter like return". the whole point of trading Simmonds right now is to get that kind of return before he is signed to a 6x6 or more deal. so is Simmonds not worth that much or is he? because it's hard to tell sometimes with the way people flip flop.

If Simmonds is asking 6x6, I agree with you. You probably have to trade him as a business decision.
If he takes something less than that, I think you have to consider keeping him.
First and foremost, he has to get healthy and be Wayne Simmonds again to even have the trade conversation, let alone have him demanding 6x6. |

i wouldnt move him just for the sake of moving him right now. if you get another year out of him and then he moves on in free agency, thats honestly not the end of the world. i get not wanting to lose assets for nothing, but you have to be very careful with that next contract, especially if you have already replaced him on the net front role on the first powerplay. |

This has been a complete nightmare for the Sixers. Bad shooting, bad decision making, bad coaching while the Celtics have been playing out of their skulls.
Brad Stevens is an excellent coach though. |

we all love the guy but statistically, he is not very impressive outside of PP goal scoring. his EV strength scoring isn't horrendous, but it's replaceable.
even when Simmonds is healthy his production is replaceable. if he wants to sign for 3 or 4 years at 4-4.5m, great. i wouldn't want him signed for much more than that.

in my opinion, letting Simmonds walk for nothing is the worst possible thing that could happen and would be a huge black mark on Hextall's current tenure as GM.
but i don't want a Dustin Brown contract situation happening while guys like Provy, Patrick, and TK all have contracts coming up and will get paid. |

I don't disagree. If Simmonds is giving a hometown discount, I want to listen.
If he wants a Milan Lucic deal, he should be dealt. |

i'm not saying give him away for peanuts, but i think we could get a solid return for him right now that would set us up better for the future. a future where Provy, Patrick, TK, and hopefully Hart are the core of this team.
i would love nothing more than to see Simmer win a cup with the Flyers, but not at the expense of setting ourselves up to be serious contenders for a long time. |

makes sense. the dudes a warrior. i personally would be very leery of signing him to that big next deal. like people said, if hes looking to do something like a 4 mil for 4 years type deal, sure you jump on it. but if hes viewing 6 by 6 as his floor, i just dont think thats a plunge the flyers should take. i dont know what the market for him would be. |

Only thing I disagree with is timing.
I think he's got to show he's healthy in order to get a good trade return and it's in Simmonds' best interest to be healthy to get the best deal possible from either the Flyers or the next team.
With surgery to his core, which is what it sounds like he needs, that might take rehab time. |

i hope Simmonds comes in next season healthy and productive. would love nothing more than to get to see him at full potential and maybe have him back at a reasonable price. i don't love this draft at all so i agree that the TDL might be the better spot to move him if that is what it comes to. |

i think there are at least several GM's out there who value the "intangibles" aspect too much and would be happy to have him.
on the open market, i think it's no doubt someone offers him something like 6x6 |

Exactly.
I just don't think Hextall is in a great negotiating position at the draft to deal Simmonds. Coming off of injury at age 29 for a power forward doesn't bode well. He's better off posturing that Simmonds is going nowhere, he's a lifelong Flyer, etc.
You have to hope that, this fall, Simmonds slowly hits his stride and shows signs that he's healthy, doing Wayne Simmonds things, etc.
The other side of this is that Simmonds has a lackluster year because of slow rehab and accepts a cheaper deal.
The timing and type of this injury is not great for the Flyers, but it's not for Simmonds, either. |

I would be happy at 4 years 6aav. Its the term that is more important to me.
As for those suggesting he will take 4-4.5, there is no way he takes a pay cut on his cap hit, that just isn't happening.
I don't want to go longer than 4 years no matter what the contract is and I hope Hexy feels the same way. Even if it means a higher cap hit in the short term.

Yeah, I can't go more than 4 either which is ultimately why I think he walks. You just know there will be desperate teams that offer him 6 years. |

A new deal with a cap hit of 4-4.5 would actually be an increase. His current cap hit is 3.975. It's a trade off. What is Simmonds willing to take. A lower Cap hit for more term or the opposite? Or does he want to test the market if the Flyers don't offer him a market deal.

Oh yes, my bad, for some reason I thought his cap hit was 4.25
I should have just looked it up.
But that does go to show what a below market deal we had Simmonds at.

It was a flat out bargain. Simmonds took security over signing a shorter deal with a chance to sign a bigger deal later. He's been drastically underpaid for his production. Now some want him to sign another below market deal to stay. I don't know what he'll do. All I know is all the deals that have been suggested, I wouldn't sign if I was Simmonds.
