There is no doubt about it. Simmonds will not sign for 4M. Simmonds saying he wants to stay does not take away his leverage that he will have as UFA. All that says is that he is willing to work out a fair deal to stay. The other day you stated that the Flyers could sign Carlson for 5M. Your contract guesses are way off. - MJL
I’ll admit, I’m probably off on what Carlson will get, because I don’t follow other teams real closely throughout the season. This however, is completely separate from Wayne’s contract situation and doesn’t mean that anyone’s estimate of his impending contract is wrong. For all we know, your estimate of 6 per year could very well be out to lunch....No need to get chippy dude, calm down. |

Looking at comparable deals, around 6M a year for a 30-30 guy sounds about right. A player like Simmonds may choose to take a home team discount but a healthy Simmonds could surely command that on the open UFA market. I'm completely calm.

I do think 6 is the high number the Flyers will sign him for, I do believe a bunch of teams will pay him that on the open market.
Looking at him and Hornqvist, Simmonds closer to 60 points a season and Hornqvist low 50's. I threw out the low seasons for each.
I do think Simmonds should consider a contract like Hornqvist as a fair offer. Simmonds has more points typically, strong locker room but Hornqvist is a leader for the Pens, scores big goals and has the cups. I can see Simmonds saying, you know I can get more. Why I think 5 years at 5-5.7 is fair for both sides |

If Simmonds gets resigned at say the high. 5 years at 6 million would you move Voracek then? Just seems like a lot tied into an aging core at that point with 6 to Simmonds, 8.75 to Giroux and 8.50 to Voracek.

Yeah.
For me I feel one of Voracek or Simmonds would need to be moved. Just feel like that's a lot of money in an aging core.
Kind of why I feel Tavares is worth the play in free agency. WHile he'll command big money, say you get him at 7 years 9 million, he is right in line with this teams window and he provides a transition from maybe Voracek or Giroux. Plus I think great centers can make wingers better. |

Brett Brown gave this one away twice in one game.
Ben should’ve never came back in. - StepfordSam
I find it amusing that people (me included) roast Hakstol for not sticking with the young guys but Brown sticks with the young guy wanting him to get the experience and he is getting roasted |

If I felt like I had to move Jake if I signed Simmonds, I wouldn't sign Simmonds, unless the offer for Jake was huge, HUGE.
Jake is just an all around better player, size, speed etc. Something we dont say a lot, when G and Jake are split up, it is usually Jake who gets the rookie on his line, Jake does carry a line, playoffs are different, he needs better or more experienced players. I do see Patrick maturing and playing with Jake for the next 3 years, that is not a bad thing.
