Because the part you are having trouble comprehending is that the hit was borderline and accidental. Kadri had obvious intent to injure and had the opportunity to pull out of his hit where as Wilson made an aggressive but clean play that resulted in an accidental hit on the chin, had the other guy kept his chin up like you are taught from peewee, this wouldnt even be a conversation. - benmacw
Wilson had time to pull out of the hit too. That was one of the reasons given for the suspension.
That’s the part you are having trouble comprehending. Good try though. |

I disagree. I think slew foots are just as dangerous, if not more dangerous, than hits to the head. With a hit to the head, you (generally) have a short amount of time to see the player coming and to try to brace yourself. With a slew foot, you have no idea that it is coming, and you have no way to protect yourself from falling backwards and slamming your head onto the ice.
I have never played pro hockey, but even as an amateur, I have never attempted to slew foot a player or trip a player by pushing his skates from behind, because I think that is the most dangerous thing than you can do to a player. That's just my opinion. - jmatchett383
I've been recovering from a concussion for 2+ years because my legs were taken out low and from behind. My first contact to the ice was my temple. I was carted off unconscious. I definitely agree with the sleep footing argument.
I don't think that cross checks are a big issue because most of them are more two handed shoves to a padded area. There are some that cross the line though. |

Excellent article. Couldn't agree more. The league is a joke when it comes to discipline. The Kadri charge/hip check to the head was abother example of an inexcusable play that could have snapped a guy's neck. It resulted in...a pathetic 3 game suspension. Someone will need to die on the ice and the NHL will need to get sued before they get serious. Sad. |

There, I edited your quote (see bold) for you to reflect to reflect Wilson's current likely status. |

Aston Reese had his head up and was looking right at him. With Wilson's history, I don't know how anyone can give him the benefit of the doubt of anything he does being accidental, especially considering he lined Aston Reese up from about 20 feet away. |

-What's the justification here from the 3 actual Caps fans for Orlov crosschecking Guentzel into the post while he celebrates his goal?
-How about the leaping Oshie head hunting charge at Letang (a guy who has a history of neck injury and concussions) at the end of the game while the Pens score the empty netter?
Cowardly, cheap, petty, dirty. Not honest hockey plays. Shameful stuff, and the only thing worse is its just accepted.
I'd like to feel sorry for the Caps and their fans, but the Caps are such a hack, garbage team from the owner on down, it makes it really tough. |

If Wilson got 3 games for his hit....this hit should have got 50 games.
The "no look elbow to the head", you'd have to be 5 years old to think he didn't do that on purpose. |

That's like the pot calling the kettle black, and it is even more sad if you actually think that PIT is a 'clean' team.

Is there such a thing as a clean team these days? The officiating is terrible and inconsistent, so every team has players that try to get away with stuff to get any advantage they can. Most of that comes in the way of clutching/grabbing/holding/interference type of stuff. Sure there is an occasional slash and stick to the family jewels. But that happens at every game and on every team.

Slashing and cross-checking are not occasional; they’re constant.
Whether is fighting for space around the net or battling for pucks along the boards, there has ALWAYS been “acceptable” slashes and cross-checks, so it’s no surprise when it gets out of hand.
