defensive depth wins cups. Thanks Darcy.
I absolutely loved what Botts did with all the depth he signed this past season. Unfortunately, we had to dip deep into that depth and use Matt Tennyson in a role that he should never sniff. If we can manage to sign a guy on the cheap that can play the 5-6 easily and 3-4 in a pinch, it would be an amazing find. A faster, better passing Falk. Maybe Brandon Manning or Greg Pateryn. Even Mark Barberio could be decent. - TheSabresTaco
Where does a guy like that fit?
We already have 9 “NHL” defensemen with Pilut about to be signed
Plus,
Falk, Fedun, Tennyson & Borgen as depth in Rochester who could come up if really needed
I don’t see any NHL defensemen signed unless we get rid of some guys
Or we get a top pair guy to bump others down
A depth guy just doesn’t make sense
We have plenty

This is a point I have overlooked until now. A BO would just be a service to the player and a huge detriment to the team. Looks like he's got another year on the Reign. - TheSabresTaco
What's the detriment? a 600k hit the following year? I'm not bothered at all if they go that route.

hudson and bogo (half celery retained) for future considerations? - IndianaSabresFan
Id just retain half of his salary and see what draft pick you can |
|
|
|
I would give a gently used Hudson Fasching + a 3rd for someone to take Bogosian and give us a 5th - sbroads24
I am not saying our D will be good next year, but Botts seems to be doing some serious overhauling back there. |

He's still waiver exempt because of games played and years of professional service. Group 6 UFAs are an odd exemption. - TheSabresTaco
Nelson loses his waiver exemption at the end of this season.

I figured Guhle will start the season in the AHL. Can Nelson go to the AHL, he is 25 and has 3 professional seasons? - Mentalorgasm5
I’m not positive on his waiver status
Don’t think his years played aren’t an issue
Maybe his age?
We could always carry 8 defensemen if need be |

Why would be do that though? Makes no sense, and its not like Moulson is a NHL player on any other team. |

Not sure how a pending UFA could then be waiver exempt on his next deal.
I don't think he can - sbroads24
That UFA status was part of that funky clause though
Idk if the waiver rules are affected by it or not? |

Because it's a minor hit and it let's both sides move on. It's goodwill gesture and Moulsen does have a lot of friends in that locker room. Maybe they won't do it, but I'd lean towards them doing it.

I just explained the use for guys like that. Signing that guy requires turnover, yes. |

I think most of us are ready to move on from Bogo...
but is his salary an issue for our Cap?
It’s only 2 more years
And although i wouldn’t miss Fasching or the 3rd, idk if we should give up assets to move him?
He’ll probably just be injured most of next season anyways |

I mean, I suppose it wouldn't be a huge detriment. I guess it would come down to how much the team respects Moulson. |

Its a business, he has made how much money for not producing? No way would I waste more money for good will. |

Bogosian, half salary retained...
to the Caps for Grubauer
They’re gonna need a RH defenseman when Carlson walks
Unlikely the pay Grubauer with Holtby signed & Samsonov coming from Russia
Bogo at 2.5mil is well worth the risk I’d think
Maybe we’d have to add a “Fasching” type prospect, or a mid round pick? |

They are completely separate things.
Neslon was 23 when he signed, he's waiver exempt for 3 seasons. He has to clear starting next season.

Travis Yost had a good segment on WGR yesterday about how Dahlin gives us options to move some guys back there.

This is what it comes down to. If an NHL team is looking for veteran depth on the league min, and Moulson is interested, I think the Sabres at least consider doing a favor to him and buying him out. If the budget allows for a 670k cap hit for 19-20, why not.
In a cold machine, the BO makes no sense. But you're dealing with people. And a veteran who doesn't complain. |

I know, we are talking about something much more important, cap space in a finite world. |

He only played 7 games after he signed
So while that burned a year of his ELC,
it doesn’t count as a “season”
Just like this past year with Mittelstadt
That’s why Mitts won’t have to be protected in the upcoming expansion draft with Seattle |
