doesn't feel that would be quite enough - guessing a late 1st or a 'top' prospect as well... - 21peter
Ya i think youre probably right guessing it would need to be a lop sided trade to move up 7 spots in this draft |

On the Zibby and 9th rumor. I was actually wondering last week whether the Rangers would trade Zibby and the 9th to move up to number 3 (as the Habs need a center). - Pete V
Montreal needs a top goal scorer at the wing even more so than a center. That's why with most experts figuring Svechnikov (RW) at going 2nd to Carolina if the Canes retain that pick, they would select Zadina at #3 overall in being an elite scorer at Halifax. Tkachuk won't fill that role as well as Zadina likely would for them at #4 estimated overall to be chosen, and then most experts have d'man ranked as the following 3 of the top 10, in Hughes, Bouchard, and Dobson. |

It's OK, the replacement is Tavares. |

If they could pull that off, effectively getting Zadina/Svenchnikov and Tavares for Zibby and the 9th, it would be something. |

If CAR trades away the 2nd pick for Mika Travelbanejad and the 9th pick they should be immediately folded and moved to Seattle. Like the Colts moving from Baltimore to Indy overnight without telling anyone. We just wake up one day and all the sudden the Hurricanes are the Seattle Wankers or whatever their name will be. |

I think you have to look at this way, would you rather have Zibby and say Wahlstrom than Zadina. Or replace Wahlstrom with whoever else you think could fall there.

I would definitely rather have Svechnikov or Zadina than Zibanejad and whoever falls there. There's so much more risk picking someone at 9 than 2.
I don't think Zibanejad stinks or anything, but I'd much rather take the dynamic talent and go out shopping for a player of similar-talent to MZ via UFA or the trade market.
I think Wahlstrom is long-gone by 9 and, right around that pick, you're starting to wade into the second-tier of talent in this draft. |

I think long gone might be a bit of an overstatement. Probably more like just gone.

Well long-gone relative to the first ten or so picks, anyway.
It's just my own personal opinion, but I think he's a top-5 pick and I think ARI is going to take him with the expectation that he'll eventually play with Keller. |

That sounds a bit too little, even for the Hurricanes organization.
In addition, Seattle appears that it will be granted a new franchise, with many feeling that the craze to bring hockey there will be bigger than what it was in Vegas. I believe the league already stated that there would be another Expansion Draft held for its formation, just like the one held last summer for Vegas. |

Yes, I know. I was not seriously suggesting that the NHL pack up the Carolina franchise overnight and move them to the PNW under the cover of darkness because they made a terrible trade. If that were the case, Edmonton would have been moved like 5x in the last two years. |

all sorts of bloggers speculating about the Rangers moving up to 2nd overall, trading with Carolina.
To me, if they pulled that off, it's gotta be for Zadina to pair him with Chytil - jimbo83
Carolina needs a center. Would the Rangers offer Zib, the 9th and something else for the 2nd? Would it be enough and would Carolina do it? |

I agree with that, Pete, since after the obvious top three, many experts have Wahlstrom ranked behind the the next 3 best d'men in this draft after Dahlin, in Hughes, Bouchard, and Dobson likely going in the middle of the top 10, along with Tkachuk at wing just prior at #4 or in between those 3 d'men. |

Dobson seems to be a riser right now, so if he gets drafted in the Top 8, it will push one of the commonly viewed top 8 guys down. I could see one of Boqvist, Hughes, Bouchard or Wahlstrom dropping to the Rangers. But if its Dobson, I would be fine with that -- and even a couple of other guys.

I think Ottawa is taking Bouchard at 4, that's a preview of Jimbo's mock draft |
