Yeah it's entirely possible, I have no idea how those contracts are structured. But also, I have to imagine that there aren't too many assistant coaches that aspire to only be assistant coaches forever. I'm sure any of them would jump at the chance to take over a team, even if just on an interim basis. Purely speculation, but it seems to me that teams wouldn't have any trouble inserting an assistant into the head coach role for the remainder of the season if they aren't ready to make a long-term commitment to an outside hire. - eichiefs9
Think the Rangers should put up a posting out for this job.
Looking for developmental coach to coach professional men's ice hockey team based in New York. Must be able to develop and nurture young players and place them in the position where they can have long successful careers. The applicant must understand that once he/she is successful in developing these players, he/she will be poop-canned in favor of a Let's Go For it Baby, Coach, and will be immediately wear the scarlet letter of retread.
Please submit all job applications to Madison Square Garden, c/o Jeff Gorton, Glen Sather and James Dolan |

So are these two Euro's more of an AHL signing or are they expected to actually compete for a spot on the big club. - mdw7413

I'd expect them to start in the AHL. Besides once the Rangers sign Kovi and Tavares, there is gonna no room on this roster. |

I had not, but that doesn't really mean anything. I love the draft and prospects and stuff like that, but I couldn't tell you a thing about undrafted players in other leagues, save for maybe a few Russians or something in the KHL. |

I'd expect them to start in the AHL. Besides once the Rangers tell Kovi to (frank) off and sign Tavares, there is gonna no room on this roster. - tomburton99

Kovalchuk? I could buy that for sure. I'm sure like 60% of his points will be on the PP, too. |

I don't know why NYR fans would hold it against Kovalchuk that he quit on the Devils

No downside to ssigning him. Either he's good and scores goals, or he's bad and the Rangers can continue to "not tank" and rebuild. |
