It's funny that people still appeal to authority as if these teams never make mistakes ever - Sabresfan-365
Teams make mistakes every year...like the Sabres trading Evander Kane for peanuts, that was a mistake. I recognize it, I'm just tired of running the good players out of town. |

Not sure of the value of ROR. Decent player but overpriced at 7.5m given his annual production. He’d be a great #3 centre on a cup bound team. Problem is, cup bound teams can ill afford the luxury.
Any trade is unlikely to realize full player value as ROR is overpaid by 2-3m a year. |

Ilya Sorokin reportedly doesn't want to sign with the New York Islanders as long as Garth Snow is the team's general manager.
Take that report with a grain of salt, but it would certainly be an interesting development if that were the case. The Islanders took Sorokin with the 78th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft and since then he's developed into a star in the KHL. He had a 1.61 GAA and .929 save percentage in 39 games in 2017-18. It's worth noting that he's still under contract in the KHL and while he could buy that contract out if he really wanted to play in the NHL, it is another factor in all of this. In other words, even if he doesn't head to North America to play for the Islanders in the near future, it doesn't necessarily say anything about his opinion on Snow. Similarly, even if the Islanders hired a new general manager - which isn't expected to happen this summer - it wouldn't necessarily lead to Sorokin heading to North America.

Major Sporting News Outlets: Ryan O'Reilly has real trade value
Bernard: He doesn't have trade value
Thanks for another Shakey Opinion. |

Honestly, if guys like Baptiste and Bailey are back down on the farm in favor signing more Pouliot types, I'll be disappointed.
The kids have to graduate at some point. Time to start seeing what they can do. I'm 100% on board with a youth movement and looking at the average age of some of the successful, young NHL teams, we're right about on pace.
Guhle, Nelson, Baptiste, Bailey, and Smith should all be up here next year. - RhinoFan
It's easy to say the kids have to graduate, but they have all had opportunities and it's on them. Nelson took advantage of it, Baptiste and Bailey haven't. Guhle and Smith are still waiver exempt and will continue to get opportunities. They should all face real competition in camp.
I'd like to see Baptiste or Bailey included in a trade this summer.

or trading everything for him and bogo? There's two problems with that line of thinking
a)there's a major difference between running someone out of town, and making the team better
for example, the leafs ran sundin out of town, we traded vanek to make our future better
b)The fact that teams would still pay a high price for a guy with a huge cap hit producing like a 2nd/3rd liner at non powerplay game states is something a good gm would take advantage of.
Literally how New Jersey rebuilt itself from ashes. By taking advantage of the cap and a moron in edmonton. |

To say Baptiste got a chance but didn't take advantage is simply not factual. He scored two goals in a game and then went back to 4th line, then the press box the next night in favor of Jordan Nolan.
And Nelson only got a look because we were so depleted due to injuries. Otherwise he would have stayed on the farm wasting away...instead of being our 3rd best defender on the big club.
Yeah, kids need to graduate. It is easy to say AND do. |

It's funny how teams would be willing to pay up big time for players we can't wait to get rid of. Silly. - RhinoFan
What sillier:
- having your team finish 31st with players who apparently are problem child’s, but fans wanting to keep the same roster
- expecting teams to trade the Sabres gems for their castoffs
- focusing on changing the bottom 6 and bottom pairings when the team
A) was the lowest scoring team in the league
B) had one of if not the biggest goal differential
C) is stocked at center, yet has zero LWs and one RW who can produce
Where is the help coming from the?
I know you aren’t saying trade Larssons for Patrick Laine ... but how would you suggest filling so many holes without burning through 3 - 4 more years of Jack or acquiring studs like Moulson, Pommer and Okposo?

He's had 3 years and 47 NHL games. Why suggest that's not an opportunity? He plays terrible defense and it's a big issue for him playing higher in the lineup. He plays himself down to the 4th line.
I think you know they aren't going to load up on kids and will bring in some vets.

Certainly one of the (many) ripple effects of Dahlin is commanding better return from any traded player. Re: ROR, maybe he fetches even more at the trade deadline, after a) Mittelstadt has played most of an AHL season as #1C, and b) we have payed most of ROR's 18-19 salary. |
