One thing you will notice this year is the style of play. Canucks for years have been a puck possession cycle team. Comets for the last couple of years have been an up and down roll 4 lines.

I am not saying it will be better or worse but it is a different style

For those who say we should acquire a winger:

The Panthers missed the playoffs this year with 248 goals.

Baertschi-Horvat-Boeser 70-80 goals
Eriksson-Sutter-Virtanen 40-50 goals
Granlund-Gaudette-Pettersson 35-45 goals
Leipsic/Archie-Gagner-Goldobin 25-30 goals

Edler-Tanev 8 Goals
Del Zotto-Gudbranson 8 goals
Pouliot-Stecher 6 goals

Total: 192-227 goals

I think it's clear what position we need to upgrade in order to make the team better, the few assets we have need to be spent wisely.

It will be interesting what style Green will deploy. As you mentioned the Comets for the last couple of years have been 4 lines. We are getting a younger team and hopefully a faster team, which means maybe less cycling and more attacking the line?

Nothing more pathetic than a late season winning streak for a bottom 3 team.

Canucks had the best 'last 10 game' record of any non-playoff team, 6-2-2.

If the "Gold Plan" were in place and teams eliminated had to gain points post-elimination to determine draft position the Canucks would be picking 1st overall.

That's kind of a neat idea. Kind of the Stanley Cup playoffs for losers. At least fans of non-playoff teams would have something to cheer for.

But it would have to be a tourney format after season's over because teams can be eliminated on the last day of season. After the season's over, the bottom 8 teams play a 5 game/3 round series to determine draft placement.

Right how could I not mention he's a "cornerstone foundational player".

Nice reminder for those looking to trash Sutter

I think the gist of it is after a team has been mathematically eliminated, the points they gain rank them at the end of the season. So a team that has sucked for longer will have a better chance of gaining more points (having being mathematically eliminated sooner) than a team that gets eliminated with only a few games left. I like it, think it adds a dimension away from tanking and for fans to actually cheer on their team all year long.

I've really come around on the size of his contract. I thought for the last couple years it was totally brutal but when you think about the role he played this year and will play next year he's really only overpaid by less than 1mil.

remember he did say he would resign here IF the sedins stayed. So we can imagine his answer now.
perhaps like other players on the team he knew they were retiring already when he said that. But if like last off season he goes without contract long enough possibly he knocks on the door....he'll need an income for all the cocaine and gambling
