2 years ago one of the Buffalo bloggers considered Risto a Norris contender. I beleive he is a #2 top pair defender on most teams, provided the #1 is a stud. As talented as he is, Dahlin can’t step into the best league in the world as a successful #1 defender without a bunch of help.

He might struggle at the role next season. He might even struggle a year or two after that. What I am saying is, if he is good enough, and has the mental fortitude, he will eventually figure it out. That's what great players do. It may take 1 year. It could take 3 years or even 7 years, but he will figure it out. If he ends up being a bust, or even simply just not as good as advertised five-plus years down the road, it won't' be because he started at the top pair too early. It will simply be because he just isn't as good as predicted.

That Eichel/ROR/Dahlin/Risto/Reinhart power play, though...

So many games we lost by a goal, or couldn't convert to tie it up late. The addition of a guy to really put that crew over the edge could make a huge impact.

I was thinking someone like Bouwmeester, Stralman, Sekeras, etc....

There are a lot better names out there but holy sheet are their a poopload of past their prime, overpaid defenders signed with 4-7 years remaining on their deals!

That's literally impossible since Ristolainen owns some of the worst defensive numbers in the NHL

That's not to say that Gardiner is some stud in his own end (far from it) but the gap between their defensive play isn't nearly as big as the gap offensively.

Gardiner doesn’t play 28 minutes a night on the worst team in the NHL. I think their offensive abilities are on par with each other. Stick Risto as a 2nd pair d-man on one of the highest scoring teams in the league and he probably puts up more points then Gardiner in the same role. Stick Gardiner on this poop show of a hockey team playing the same amount of minutes and he probably produces less then Risto did this year.

That's only when both teams are good. When the games aren't selling out, even when they come here, which has been the case over the past couple of years, that demand goes down.

This. I made inbetween my season ticket and face value price. You don’t make a killing like 12 years ago.

Only able to go to 10 games it’s a struggle to even make half your money back on the tickets
