The only person who needs to know the answer to that question is JBotts, and he doesn't need to get that information from WGR. - JetpackJesus

Didn't know the first. I was starting to look into 2nd and 3rd round targets, I'll look at Wise, don't know anything about him really. - RhinoFan
Wise was the " Jack eichel of this draft" then (injures )and struggled and struggled and struggled
But he's going to BU and they can develop good and he will be with Brady tkachuk |

90 points ? Jesus who is the closest to ever come close to him in today’s nhl ? - gerbe75pts
I never saw Orr, either, but I would assume it's Lidstrom since he's the best D-man of the modern era.
EDIT: If by today's NHL you mean playing now, then Karlsson, probably? |

Does 32 and Nylander get the Sabres Mike Hoffman? He would make our left side look a lot better
Edit: maybe the sharks 2nd also? - jcragcrumple
Doubtful. it's not that the value is so far off or anything, but Ottawa has to hit on most of the returns they get for their sell off. Nylander's too risky of a pick up for them. |

The team is full retard they gave away Dahlen which is going to be historically bad for them |

that's kind of why they have to make sure they hit on the return for guys like hoffman.
They (frank)ed themselves during whatever false window they had. Now they have to salvage the foundation or risk folding. |

If you watched the video clips of Dahlin going end to end through 5 guys ... well,
Bobby Orr did that on a constant basis... 5-6 times a game. No one could get the puck from him and he made others look like rookies out there.
He was simply amazing. He had a couple rounds of knee surgeries from my recollection...and they ultimately did him in...he was a shell of himself...the talent was there, but he couldn’t skate and be shifty like he one was...sad really..he was in his prime.
Had he lasted longer, it would be a tough argument of who is the best...Gretzky/Orr take your pick. He revolutionized the D position.
Phill Espizito made a living tipping in his shots...seriously I’d say when he scored 76 goals in a season, 55 were tip-ins of an Orr shot from the point....those two were magic together. |

I think they're gonna be gunning hard for a first round pick via trade. Kicking off a rebuild without a first is gonna be tough
Edit: oops, that's next year |

They basically got a Jeff Skinner clone |

The defense is going to keep us in every game, similiar ro last year. They need to keep up the turn over differential.
Ground game and no turnovers on offense.

Optics are their enemy as well. Getting first for 2019 is one thing, if colorado wins a lottery pick (which sans hoffman and karlsson is very possible) what's left of their fan base will go nuts. |

Puts things in perspective. We think we have it bad? Their best player is leaving, the BPA (arguably) at 4 is no longer available to play next year, no first next year, worst contract in the league (Ryan), and the owner is an unrepentant doooosh. |

Id say what really makes it bad is Dorion either isn't allowed to think for himself (melnyk meddling) or isn't that good at his job.
Even the non advanced stats people knew regression would hit the sens hard after the conf. finals appearance. While i understand the decision to try and fight that, doing so by trading Turris for basically his close while giving up a first was moronic. especially because guess who's a free agent next summer? |

The list for 2018 absolutely sucks.
Johnny T, a big drop off of talent to a couple others, then |

But they are awful with him in that role. What are we replacing that's leading to wins?
It's not like Eichel where you can see the entire offense goes through him. All they need to replace is a defensive 3/4 C and let Mittelstadt/Rodrigues handle his O zone starts. - sbroads24
Hopefully the cluster(frank) of a "system" that was played. Some sort of cohesion at least. That's the biggest thing.
It's not a matter of whether this guy or that guy is slow, it's the fact that they have to stop and wait for the puck. It doesn't matter if everyone was McDavid fast if you have to stop and wait, giving the other team time to get into position you're not going to fare very well.
In these playoffs, players are skating up ice and BAM! the puck is on their stick in stride. There's more than enough talent on the team to be a middling, bubble team, but they need to start playing as a team, like they do when they're playing from behind late in the 3rd period.
It's all about timing. Changing the system every 2 years is not going to help that when you have as many young guys as the Sabres do. |

Guys from the first 10 games last year to guys who should be in the first 10 games this year.
Housley needs speed/skill for his system. He should be getting it, even without moves |

This has more to do with player skill than system. You're right that speed is more than just skating ability.
The ability to receive the pass in stride and make a meaningful play is a skill. The reason they chose to play a cluster(frank) system is because they didn't have the guys to execute a real one.
That was very evident from the first few games and why after the second 6-2 loss early on, they switched back to very basic/boring hockey.
That talent is slowly coming through but it's not enough, not yet. |
