No doubt. But it's a lot less painful than watching the dying breaths of Moulson's career - jcragcrumple
Normally I'd agree cause expectations are shot. But i can't see a scenario where they just accept the pains of a young team and let the chips fall where they fall.
People couldn't sell 6 dollar tickets last year, the odds of tpegs letting that happen again are basically 0. I fully expect some kind of short term patch job for the lineup.
This has more to do with player skill than system. You're right that speed is more than just skating ability.
The ability to receive the pass in stride and make a meaningful play is a skill. The reason they chose to play a cluster(frank) system is because they didn't have the guys to execute a real one.
That was very evident from the first few games and why after the second 6-2 loss early on, they switched back to very basic/boring hockey.
That talent is slowly coming through but it's not enough, not yet. - Sabresfan-365
To be a "good" team, no, not yet, but they have way too much talent to be last.
And it definitely does take skill to take a pass in stride, but no one's in synch, guys leave the zone too early, or the D-men panic and (frank) up because there's 2 of them and 1 forechecker. They need time in a system and actually play the system, they need to buy in. That's on the coach to get his players to buy in. I'm not expecting them to be a high flying team on a consistent basis, they're still too young for that, but I don't think it's too much to ask for them to have it for games at a time instead of 10 minutes at the end of a game while the other team is in a shell.

Yup, and they couldn’t play that system either.
Yet, many on here don’t want to trade away any of these guys.
Beyond that, there's actually an interesting analysis of the accuracy issue that tries to account for his receivers, o-line, and team not being good. I haven't finished yet because work, but the author also starts getting into the mechanical issues Allen needs to work on. It's a pretty good analysis from what I've read so far.

I expect them to sign a Desharnais or equal for the 4th line center spot, which would allow Erod to move to the top-9 where he belongs. That said, it's hard to project a roster without knowing what they'll do at other positions.
I'm obviously still in favor of going Eichel/ROR/Mitts/Desharnais/Erod down the middle. I think it would be top-10 in the league. But the winds of change are blowing...
