I dont think anyone is arguing that he's better off in a lesser role
- Sabresfan-365

I'm not talking about a 3rd line role, just not a "leading NHL forwards in ice time" role

Neither am I, I view him as a 2nd liner.

15 minutes of Kris Baker talking about Dahlin. Even with the amount of hype we give Dahlin we can still be under hyping him. Amazing stuff.

Well whether he's traded or he's here, I think he'll be scaled back. Mittelstadt's arrival will help ROR in the same way Dahlin should help Risto.

Or if he's traded, maybe he'll go to a better scenario.

He needs to be. Unfortunately, can't scale the salary back to match.

Sure, but it's hardly a "bad" contract, he's productive. It's not an Andy MacDonald deal, or Lecavalier's last deal, or Dustin Brown, or add any one of the numerous terrible contracts out there, Toews, but at least that's a product of 2 Cups? I don't remember when they kicked in, or signed the extension and I'm too lazy to look, at least 1.

Toews' deal came after all 3 cups. during them he made ELC money and then 6.5 mil

You already know my stance on ROR, or if you don't there's a solid two months worth of archive.

If Mittelstadt plays well, then RoR gets scaled back and shifts to 70% dzone starts. I've never felt his defense lived up to his reputation.

Im fine with ROR for now. unfortunate issues on the horizon are the expansion draft and mitts contract....and then Dahlins down the road. I feel like ERod can be a capable 3rd line shut down center, but thats putting a lot of faith in mitts as the second at a young age. I don't think we can afford to keep ROR and Okposo until the end of their contracts if we hope to keep Mitts, Dahlin and Jack, plus their respective wingers not named Scott Wilson.
I REALLY hope Okposo bounces back.
I haven't seen a large enough sample size to believe Mitts can replace ROR at center.

Even if he wasn’t a shut down center, he scored well in limited time. He could handle offensive minutes.

This is why it’s 100% time to make a deal.

You have Center depth now, and in the future with Asplund, Davidsson, Pu etc.

Go get younger, cheaper, and better long term

Honestly do we really need Ryan O'Reilly female doging up a storm next year when Jack eichel has the C on his chest

His value is high I don't want to risk him decreasing it next year

I definitely get the "strike while the iron is hot" idea.
I just think losing him might expose our youth at center, giving us another year of misery, then a lockout. Then it's time to pay Mitts and Dahlin....may be Rhino and we're in a bad position because other GM's will know we're trading him to get him off our books.
I know as a team, we cant go anywhere but up, but next year might suck again if we ditch ROR.
If we traded him, i'd like to get a player we can plug in right away rather than picks and prospects. unless that pick is #2 or #3 overall.

I think you lose so much value in a trade waiting IMO.

There are “win now” teams that would like O’Reilly most likely
