That's fine but a trade also depends on team needs and in the position the Habs find themselves in, those picks are worth more to them than a 3rd line C... The Habs will agree to that package of picks and the so called prospect in Mccarron if Borgstrom is the player coming back the other way - obie
isn't bergevin trying to get back to the playoffs next year? |

Your argument makes sense except his suggestion was based on the premise that the Habs are going to want to improve "now", which means sacrificing even more of the future and overpaying.

Well that is likely going to be the market you are in if you are trying to trade for a center.
You can sign Bozak as a free agent, or overpay for a center. - Aetherial
I hear ya but if you're gonna overpay, overpay for a player who actually solves your problems |

The Habs need 2 C better than Bjugstad, I'd rather draft in the top 3 again next than overpay for an average C just good enough to have them picking 13th next year |

Borgstrom would play on the Habs next year and possibly put up more points than Bjugstad, he'd probably stay healthy also |

Me too, all I'm saying is I'd rather they move the 3rd overall pick for a guy like Gabe Valardi or Cody Glass instead of putting all kinds of picks together and acquire a guy who isn't what they're looking for, they tried that last year, not so good |

Sadly, "problem solvers" are sometimes not even available at anything like a reasonable price.
The Leafs know all about this trying to upgrade their defense. It is going to cost them stuff that they don't to give up. It's gonna hurt.

I agree... They will need to overpay but if you're gonna go that way, overpay for a guy who's gonna be the player you've been looking for... Especially in a year where you hold the 3rd overall pick and 4 second rounders |

Even with that mentality, ship that same package to LA for Jeff Carter |

"The obvious candidate for trade would be Montreal's captain Max Pacioretty, however, I recently did a full piece on this which you can find here. Instead, the focus is going to be what the Habs can acquire from the Panthers. "
I wasn't saying Pacioretty for Bjugstad, simply saying that I wrote a previous article about a Pacioretty trade and that instead I'd focus on Bjugstad to the Panthers.

Yeah, I completely misread your whole thing man.
Sorry. |

Why not keep those picks, and attempt to pool some of those 4 2nd rd selections into higher pick in the draft. Bjustad is a great player, but you would still not have a true #1 C, nor a team that is a contender. Focus on drafting high, another lottery chance, and free agency, as this team has 2 horrible contracts (weber and price) and should not be targeting 4M dollar players that will maybe jump them from 26th in the league to 21st. |

Bjugstad would get 30 points playing on this Habs team! |

As stupid as Bergevin is, I'm pretty sure he'd insist on the pick being the 6th overall with Montreal adding other assets... It is interesting though and along the lines of what he should be looking for! I'd still prefer Glass or Valardi though |

I bet Tallon would love to get Seabrook on the Panthers. The Hawks could probably get Huberdeau. |
