Dobson seems fine but where the canucks are picking there should be better options available. i get the impression by all the rankings ive seen that he is a clear cut below walhstrom, hughes, bouchard, boqvist and tkatchuk

But if I was to play devils advocate here and answer your questions, i'd challenge the argument that 'nothing is coming' and say Bo and Brock are developing and Pettersson is coming. You could also argue that Goldobin, Gaudette and OJ are coming.
Subban would be a 1D that we need and definitely don't have coming and could be seen to help the youngins develop.
Adding Subban would not necessarily derail a rebuild.

The thing about the D in the first round is there are a lot of risks . Some of these guys are closer to a Travis Sanhiem than a Ivan Provorov.
