"When you finish where we were, you have to look at everything," he said. "That means looking at even changing up some of our core players. From a free agent standpoint, we'll be involved in free agency. But I'm a believer that you just can't build a team just through free agency. It has to come from within our organization." - sbroads24
Didn't he say something to the tune of "we'll be active in free agency something something owner deep pockets/resources?" after they won the lottery? |

I'm left wondering where the "big changes" are coming from. - TheSabresTaco
A lot of us will feel that way. He'll sell Okposo, Lehner as the core moves. |

I don't think there's a fan in Sabreland who wouldn't want to see that happen - Michael Pachla
There may be a chance Reinhart is moved if his contract demands are outlandish. Like if he's unwilling to take a bridge deal and wants a long term deal at like 6 million. |

Salary wise, they are core players. I'll refrain from judgement until after July 1. But we need to see movement. |

Lehner too I guess. I think the lottery win changes things, it gave him a core player for free.
I think it would be a mistake not moving ROR this summer, but I wouldn't go that far - Sabresfan-365
They were getting one regardless of picking 4th or 1st.
We just have more options now.
You weren't getting a #1 D man any other way, so it should have 0 bearing on their offseason plans.
They show up with the same slow forwards in the top 6, and Ristolainen playing 25 min a night, I'm out. The improvment will be marginal at best |

The guy doesn't have the leverage. Galchenyuk is a pretty good comparable here. I'm betting on 4.5M. |

If not qualifying Lehner is his big move for the summer, I give him an F. I have a hard time imagining that. |

He said that, and then said something like :
but the league isn't like it was 10-15 years ago. You can't build a team through free agency |

He's got the golden ticket imo. At some point all three of Dahlin, mittelstadt, Guhle will be with the team, he didn't have that kind of internal help last year. combined with minimal expectations, the fan base will love it. |

and okposo** and trading nylander++. with expectations so low, his off season moves won't matter. As long as the team doesn't suck next year he'll be the best GM since 2011 darcy |

I don't know why everyone wants to trade Nylander, and then expect some great return. The guy has a poop load of talent that he hasn't utilized yet. And he probably doesn't have much value until he does. If he magically gets us a top 6 winger, then neato. But I doubt it. |

Nice work as always
Mittelstadt at 8 was good for his career, and Dahlin is even better. If he can move Bogo or Okposo, that would be a successful summer. 1 or 2 smart vet depth signings, and let the kids play. He understands we need to get faster on the wings.
I would love a trade for a scoring winger. - jcragcrumple
Bogosian to the Caps for Grubauer
They’re gonna need a RH defenseman when Carlson walks
Maybe add a pick or Fasching-like prospect
Keep half Bogo’s salary
So we will get a pretty good young goalie to pair with Ullmark
And have to pay roughly a 2.5mil Cap hit from him for 2yrs, but that’s better than if we bought him out
Gets us a price reduction on Grubauer
If not the Caps,
teams are always desperate for defenseman help
Someone will take a chance on him for half salary |

Not right away though, I think that's what changes. It speeds up your timeline. If your best add was Tkachuk who is going back to college, you'd have to make some moves. Because he's further away and less likely to hit core status than Dahlin.
The fact that they weren't going to get one and then managed to luck into one is why it changes things. There's less pressure to make moves right now to make up for that deficiency.
I think they'll add a scoring/speedy winger for eichel and try and move okposo. That's two guys right there.
And with something almost resembling nhl depth on defense, it's unlikely Ristolainen plays that much unless the year is about sheltering Dahlin (maybe early on) |

I think the fact that he has a poop load of talent and is only 20 will carry value. That plus say 32 and next years 2nd may get you a guy capable of keeping up with Eichel |

Im going to go out on a limb and say that Bogosian retained plus Fasching will not be the best offer the caps receive for Grubauer |

They would be, but keeping those other guys around would insulate them. I think in the short term thats the idea.
I don't agree with it at all, but other than a Friedman interview and Harrington's gut, there hasn't been much to suggest any of Risto, Reinhart or ROR will be gone. |

100% disagree. It puts more pressure.
They come out and suck with Eichel and Dahlin, with the current high paid players..... he ain't keeping his job |
