The shot? The passing? He finds seems and holes so fluid like(part eel)? He does everything with his head up and confident the puck is on the sweet spot of his stick blade all the time... hard to imagine this guy wont be in on half out offence after he transitions. - boonerbuck
you're right. It's possible he becomes the most exciting to watch canuck since bure |

What if he puts up 80 points in his first 39 games? Do we get impatient and call him up? |

You must have me mistaken for someone else, I have been all about drafting for about 40 years and still have the hockey news draft editions at my moms house from those years.
Back then Bob MacKenzie was the king and today he still is.
Pretty sure your strategy is just a copy and paste from many of the analytic sites that think everything is easy because a few teams have been able to do it, but those teams also had some legitimate younger players and some legitimate prospects.
This team had the worst possible situation going for it, a very high-salaried aging team, with many nmc/ntc issues, a disgruntled whiny star player, and zero prospects in the system.
Do I wish all picks were kept, (frank) ya, I never like giving up a pick, was I happy too see guys like Higgins bought out , Sedin's retire, Hansen and Burrows traded, Kesler Garrison etc out, hell yeah.
This team is much younger now and hopefully the rewards of going younger will be rewarded over the next couple seasons.
Sorry about the novel. - Reubenkincade

at 9:23, The BobFather had OJ as the #1 ranked Dman. JB wasn't the only one who liked him. His rankings are a combo of NHL GMs and Scouts I believe. |

No rush, he's helping improve other players while he is in the AHL too. |

Pronman had OJ as the best D also. When drafting, you pick the player you think has the most upside, not the most NHL ready. |

This team is 5 years away from being in the playoffs. I want a team that will contend for a cup not a team contending to come in 8th.
Its like people here want the leafs of the last 10 years who had a goal of making the playoffs. I want a team like we had before, you know one that was battling for a cup year after year. - mauryballstein
lol...we battled for the cup in 2011...which other Canucks team are you referring too? |

He should be 'jumped in'. Swarmed by guys with soap on a rope in the locker room. If he whines or misses practice, shave his balls and send him to Utica.

The next core will be Horvat(23), Boeser(21), Petersson(19), and hopefully guys like Juolevi(20), Demko(22), 2018 1st round pick(17/18)
If you want to contend with those guys in the future, then it makes sense to only target assets in that age gap so that they can grow together and enter their primes together. Basically target picks and prospects because teams are unlikely to trade guys that young who are already established roster players.
Can always add some old guys in the future via UFA/TDL to get over the hump once the team’s core is good enough on it’s own to make the playoffs. - Nucker101
for me, as long as you can offload guys before their value nosedives, thats the main thing. take tanev and edler for example. a lot of dman maintain (or even grow) their games into their 30's. The risk is leaving it too late.
bringing in more stopgap UFA's is probably not a good choice for us, but you look at most rebuilding teams and they bring in vets at some point (TML = marleau, polack, hainsey; BUF = gorges, bogosion, ror), but usually when they're on the upswing (you don't want to play yourself out of a high pick ofc).
i think JB + TL wanted to get ahead of the sedin's a bit by grabbing guys like sutter, gudbranson and erikkson
unfortunately we didn't have the calibre of assets on our roster to bring in a haul like the ranger this year. notice they've also hung onto guys like zucarello and zibenejad who could get them some decent picks. |
