Agreed. We have a chance to draft a bona fide franchise defenseman. We need to do it.
- feetontheair22

For a cap guy like Botts, the thought of having a top pair d-man for 2 years (assuming it takes a year to get there) on ELC money is basically boner central.

Karlsson said he's into chicken wings, maybe he'll take a discount
- washedup20

Zweigles gets us Kessel and Duffs gets us Karlsson. If Tavares likes to eat nachos off the floor, we’re all set.

Just checked the standings, 3ER still #1

Unless the name McDavid is in the deal for Dahlin, the answer is NO. Analysists in the hockey world are calling him the best defenseman to come along in 40+ years and we're going to consider trading him for parts, no matter how good those parts are?

The goal is and always has been to win the cup. Almost all teams have a shot at doing just that once they acquire a few key pieces. #1 franchise centremen, #1 franchise defenseman, and then... legit 2C, #2 Dman, and a goalie.

We may now have all these parts finally in place and we're going to consider blowing it up? If the Sabres trade Dahlin they deserve to lose and suck at the bottom of the standings forever.

If Dahlin is half as good as they say he is those are terrible deals, including the panthers one. Trocheck plays our strongest position too.
- Sabresfan-365

I wouldnt trade out of it for anything at the moment.

I’d trade the #1 pick for Evander Kane.

Not sure how anyone could pass on the perfect playoff player

If we were remotely close to a playoff spot, I'd do the karlsson one. That's it. The deal that moves a first overall pick in a draft that isn't RNH/Hischier (no disrespect) at the top, has to be one where a better player is coming back.
- Sabresfan-365

By the same token, Karlsson is looking at 11-12 per for the back-9 of his prime. Karlsson extended with Hoffman would probably do it for me, but not just Karlsson by himself. There's too much upside on a cheaper salary to sell 1-for-1 imo.

But still, why would you? McDavid and Eichel on the same team would be amazing, but the team would still lose having an overworked Risto and Badgosian as your defense. Having Eichel and Dahlin is really the best we could have ever hoped for, and if Casey becomes a star center, then we're golden.

Scoring wingers will come. Just like how Crosby and Malkin turns Pittsburgh's 3-7th round bags of crap into 30 goal scores, Eichel and Mitts will as well.

Some of those offers arent horrible. If we didnt need a dman so horribly, I think I would take either the Panthers offer or Habs
- Mentalorgasm5

I wouldn't, they're all ridiculous. I was just picking the one out of the bunch that was the closest, and it's still way off.

how does salary retention work on a bonus heavy deal?
- Sabresfan-365

Apparently, you can retain bonus money. I haven't looked it up myself yet, but Lunion hasn't steered us wrong yet.

Trocheck plays our strongest position, sure, but not once ROR is shipped out. And Mittelstadt can be brought along on the wing until he's ready to be a full time, big minute center. Then, if Mittelstadt plays up to expectations we'd have the best center depth in the league. He's also really good at faceoffs, so that ought to get Fitz on board.

I don’t get how anybody could turn Down Connor McDavid you’re basically getting guaranteed player That will be the Scoring MVP every year or The MVP of the league the best player for the next decade

To a player that could be the best defenseman

If McDavid and Jack played on the same team, they would relieve pressure from each other because most teams only have 1 good shutdown line. Also, could you imagine the powerplay? McDavid would get 125 points and Jack 100.

Also, yes to Casey Nelson. These are the kind of smart signings that I hope Botts continues to do. Solid d-man at a very reasonable cap hit.

Not sure Eichel and Mitts are the same class of player as Sid and Gino. I wouldnt assume just any old slob will be productive.
