I'd prefer a right handed defense man over a forward. It depends what the teams above us do.
Personally I see it as the following:
Buffalo Dahlin
Carolina Svechnikov (hoping I spelled that somewhat close)
Montreal Zadina
Ottawa Boqvist
Arizona (Wild Card)Wahlstrom/Hughes
Detroit (Wild Card) Hughes/Tkachuk
Van Bouchard/Dobson
Can't see Arizona passing up on Wahlstrom but they also need defense - 93Nucks
my feelings are hughes will be a coyote but if he isnt then i dont think he falls past detroit. blashill is coaching him over at the worlds and has said good things about him |

Didn't they pick D the last two years? I'd be shocked if they passed on Wahlstrom or Tkachuk.
Either way, I see a pretty similar scenario playiing out, I would really like to see some of those guys drop but I think we will have hughes/Dobson/bouchard to choose from which is pretty sweet. Just get it right! - neem55
2016 they took Chychrun and Keller
2017 they took Pierre-Olivier Joseph (defense) at 23.
They have gone D heavy the last couple years 9/14 picks if the site I am on is accurate |

if they dont go defense i think tkachuk is the pick. they have quite a few centre prospects and the family/local ties would make it hard to pass up |

Might just be Chayka wants to build from the back end and keeps picking D
My guess is they take Wahlstrom if he's on the board, but clearly you've spotted a trend. |

Right, forgot about the Tkachuk connecting to the coyotes franchise. Bit of a sellign point. Tkachuk isn't as impressive analytics wise, Chayka is a nerd and not a traditionalist. You bring up a good point, I'm not so sure Chayka thinks that way though. |

Back to what we traded for him
I can't see much value in trading him now. He's just getting his career started, I'd give him a low-ball bridge contract and make him earn his value. |

Chayka is moneyball so I’m guessing whichever player has good zone entry, zone exit, corsi, etc will be his pick.
No chance he picks Tkachuk despite the Coyote connection with his father. |

The ironic thing about this is that Boquist is probably the hardest one to get a lot of tape on, similar to Dahlin there just isnt a ton out there unlike the NA players and kids that play here. Willing to take the scouts word on Dahlin, but not Boquist. In favor of the guys you can see lots of footage of, and who look great because they play with kids their own age. I see where you are coming from, as he didn't do well playing SHL, but a 17 year old that plays ppg game at the superelite level at 17 is special IMO. - neem55
I watched a few of his U18 games and I wasn't impressed. I was shocked how reckless he was. Throw in his concussions and it's a hard no for me. Agree to disagree. But, I was bang on last draft. I called Liljegren falling out of the top 10 and was called crazy for it. I also called Makar and Heiskanen rising to the top 5 and Nico going first overall. Guess my eye test is decent

I see Tkachuk falling at least to 9 possibly out of top 10. Can't see Chicago passing on D if the draft goes accordingly same with Rangers. |

It will never be used again unless they change the compensation. It's out of whack. Draft picks are far more valuable today then they were 10 years ago. |

personally i agree, there are many other players id take before him but the bobfather whos rankings are usually very reflective of the draft said he was solidly in the top-4, so that has me wondering |

I agree for the most part.
Depends on the situation though. It can 100% be used to take advantage of a team in cap hell. Makes more sense for teams expected to be in the playoffs of course.
I doubt they’ll change the compensation though, NHLPA would benefit from lower compensation but they usually get bent over by the owners on things like that in CBA negotiations. |

MTL is so unpredictable because Bergevin is in over his head as GM. I wouldn’t be shocked if they drafted any prospect who’s ranked in the consensus top 10. Some Habs fans want Dobson.
I could see the Sens maybe drafting Tkachuk as well. Their fanbase seems to love him.
Still think someone should try buying low on Galchenyuk from them. Even if he’s a winger. |

somone can write a predatory offersheet to stone of $8.1M for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
that's pretty minimal for a winger of his quality. |

Lilegren's going to be a great dman for Toronto, might make the team next year and has all the markings of a very good top4 player in the modern NHL. You didn't call hieskanen in the top5 (no one on this board did), you were all over middlestadt and Glass all year. But hey, it's all good. Every year guys slip that should have been picked higher and vice-versa some guys have big draft years and get picked high then fizzle a bit. As usual, I'll take the scout's opinion. |

yes I did. Manvan, please confirm. I never wanted Mittlestad. I liked Nico and Heiskanen the best. Followed by Makar then Glass and Petterson. Hated Lijegren and Patrick.
Edit - I don't think Liljegren makes the team next year or the season after. |
