Yes, and O’Reilly is good.
Really good, or great players, move the needle, even on bad teams, like McDavid.
O’Reilly doesn’t - sbroads24
If Franson had more ice time, he'd be Risto. If Erod had more ice time, he'd be O'Reilly. If my grandmother had wheels, she'd be a bicycle |

Jonathon Drouin was dealt for an unknown in Sergachev.
Flyers traded Brayden Coburn to the Lightning and ended up with Travis Konecny
How did the Jeff Carter trade end up for Philly? - sbroads24
A top10 draft pick who then had another great year continuing to develop after he was drafted is hardly an “unknown”
Not proven yet,
but he was thought of very highly
The Coburn example is terrible
O’Reilly is a much, much better player than he was
U wanna trade “depth guys” like Girgs, Larsson, etc for a lotto ticket...
Then ok, that makes sense
Not trading a top30 Center for that though
No freaking way
And how did that Jeff Carter trade work for Philly?
Obviously Voracek is a good player
I don’t remember who they got with the pick... was it Couturier?
But they never got to where they wanna be without him
And Carter went & won 2 Cups as an important part of LA
So 8 years(?) later & Philly is no better off having traded Carter
I’m not sure what the point was with those examples |

If O’Reilly had better linemates he’d score more 5 on 5
If Gorges wasn’t Risto’s partner he’d be a #1
If Reinhart works on his skating he will be a 30 goal guy
Oh look, 31st place |

I looked it up
It was Voracek & the 8th pick (Couturier) & a 3rd round pick
Up until this year...
when Couturier finally broke out...
Carter >>> Voracek & Couturier
So it took 8 freaking years for Philly to “win” that trade
And u could even argue whether or not they did win the trade (even now),
since Carter went on to be a HUGE part to LA winning 2 Cups |

I think you are underselling Voracek. It's at least very close even before couturier's breakout |

It's not close at all. Philly traded them and they were instrumental in 2 Stanley Cup wins.

Right...
but your point (i think) was that Philly has been better off with what they got in the trade,
instead of having Carter
Carter was obviously a good enough player to be an important part of 2 Cup wins in LA
What he did after her left vs what Voracek & Couturier have done for Philly...
I’d rather have had Carter
Like i said in the next post...
took 8 years for that trade to tilt in Philly’s favor |

If we trade ROR, he might be a key piece to win a cup, but 8 years later, one of the draft picks will finally be really good. We still won't have a cup, but, ya know, that player might be good

Of course, and so could O’Reilly.
Not in Buffalo anytime in the next two years, and he will be a depreciating asset when we actually contend.
I’m not saying O’Reilly sucks, for the millionth time |

If they're not used as secondary players (i.e Kopitar and co don't exist) do they still win two cups?
Just based on production it's pretty close. LA made that trade at the right time, and it paid off for them. Doesn't mean Philly got hosed, they've gotten a lot of value out of Voracek and now Couturier. |

I actually don't have too much of an issue with him. I just don't see how one can look at this roster for the past couple of years and tell me how it would be stupid to trade anybody other than Eichel. Nobody on this team is capable of moving the needle except #15. |

O’Reilly is good enough to be a key peice to a cup team, but not good enough to lead our team in ice time and keep us out of last |
