That’s the thing though...
if we are trading O’Reilly for picks/prospects,
Then we might be waiting 6 years like Philly before we “win” that trade

So if we are moving ROR for someone(s) who actually help make us better in the next couple of years...
then ok! That makes sense

But if he’s being moved for pieces that are “maybes” or even “longshots” and we won’t find out for years...

Then he adds more value to us keeping him around and building with him

- jdfitz77

I think you can get a roster player that makes a better impact than he does for the right package. If you can get an impact winger for him (Botterill was supposedly the mastermind behind the Kessel trade), this team is probably better off, even considering some Middelstadt growing pains.

Don’t forget Bogosian.

It took everyone a few years to catch up to 365 and myself on him

- sbroads24

Ok... fair enough...
u were among the first to hate on Bogo

That was a good call

Then that would be a trade that makes sense

We’d still have to bring in a defensive Center though
Bc we don’t want Eichel or Mittelstadt taking in those responsibilities
I don’t think i want E Rod doing it either
Asplund might develop into that guy though?

If O'Reilly is ever on a cup winning team, he will be a 3C, just as Jeff Carter was.
- buffalofan19

Stoll was LAs 3C... NOT CARTER

And if he doesn’t, whatever. O’Reilly is a fine player.

I just can’t hear how it’s impossible to improve by moving him. It’s nonsense

In 2012, Richards actually played a bigger role than Richards did. In 2014, his game went to Hell.

im not even joking, get rid of bogosian and bring in petry as your only moves and this team takes a massive step towards the playoffs.

That's how negative his impact has been since day 1.

- Sabresfan-365

How did that guy ever get the rep of being a fast puck moving Defenceman? I look at his stats and they’re horrible.

My dude,

Philly didn’t trade Carter to LA.

Philly ended up with Coots and Voracek.

Columbus ended up with Johnson.

Philly won there Carter trade. Columbus lost theirs

- sbroads24

How are u not getting this?
Carter was better on Philly than Voracek + Coots
BAD MOVE by Philly letting him go
They should’ve kept Carter!

jcrag pretty much has.

Even if he’s a top 25-30 center, his kid would still trade him for Panarin or the second pick. That’s not saying much

Last season (not this past, Carter was hurt)

Carter 66 points

Voracek and Coots - 95 points

2015-16

Voracek and Coots - 94 points
Carter - 62 points

Year before Voracek was too 5 in scoring

Carter came at the deadline if i remember correct, and one of them played on the wing
Pretty sure Carter was never 3C in LA

And even in that playoffs you’re talking about, their stats were basically even
Richards- 4g 11a 15pts
Carter- 8g 5a 13pts

U could argue that Carter’s goal scoring ability had a bigger impact than Richards all around game
But I’d just say it was pretty close regardless of who u wanna give the edge to

And Carter was surely a big part of their success that playoffs

Coots was an average 3rd liner,
never scoring over 40pts

Carter played with worse talent than Voracek (who played on a line with Giroux & Simmonds mostly) and still was the better goal scorer on a team who plays defensive hockey

So while their point totals may be more than his...
we all know that Carter has been better than both those guys

And if Philly never made the trade,
Carter would still be killing it on Philly
Apparently u discounted where i said,
“Carter on Philly”
If you’re gonna compare what Carter did on LA,
then you’ve gotta include the 2 Cups he was a big part of
Whereas Voracek & Couturier have been a big part of a Philly team that borders on the playoffs most years

Before this year,
Coots most goals was 15, Voracek was 23
Carter had 36, 33, and 46 goals with Philly before he was traded

I know this went a little off the rails,
but who was Philly’s GM back then???

If the only move he made was trading Richards for Simmonds & Schenn,
they’d probably have won a Cup or 2

Moved out Cater, JvR & Bobrovsky
Yikes

What a dumbass (whoever it was)

if you're referring to bogosian, i have no idea either

if you're referring to petry, he's pretty good in his own end and really good at limiting opponents entries and performing clean exit passes.

three of those seasons he was a point per game guy though. I think his assists totals last four years average out to 50.
