If we can pull that off...I'm down. I'm not happy about it, cuz I like Risto....but If we could swing Risto and ROR for Kelfbom (spelling) and Zadina/Svechnikov...that's pretty damn good.
But that's a BIG "if" - feetontheair22
It's a big "IF" but I'm pretty sure our GM has a plan to get a Winger and this seems pretty logical if it happens |

? Stripes suggested that if we got the 10th overall pick we could package that with Ryan O'Reilly to get the third and Galchenyuk

klefbom is top pair... - Sabresfan-365
Even though he is an LHD, wouldn't that work well with the idea of having an anchor for each of the top 2 pairs with him and Dahlin on the left side, therefore making it much easier for the RHD on each pair? |

It also gives Guhle plenty of time to develope.
Imagine having 3 studs on the left hand side, and just giving them each unspectaular but solid partners like Nelson, Borgen and name your FA/trade add here ____ |

The inverse isn't always true either though.
To date Botterill hasn't done anything to make me think he's any better than the average guy. Benoit Balls was a decent signing, Beaulieu was a calculated gamble that fell short. Wilson was a pretty good move, but it was also low risk, low reward. Are we going to give him poop for drafting Dahlin because "anyone can do that?" like we did with Murray, while simultaneously not giving credit for Guhle and Nelson and maybe CJ Smith who at the very least makes Rochester better?
Botterill drafted Mittelstadt who fell into his lap, at least if you go by these rankings http://www.mynhldraft.com...t/2017-nhl-draft-rankings Throw out the high 2, and the low 12, and most are in the 4-8 range. So that didn't take much skill either. I'm not saying he's poop, at all. I'm simply saying that, to this point, he hasn't done anything to fill me with confidence that he's any better than average. That doesn't mean I don't think he can be better, just that I'm not sure where all your confidence comes from other than he was part of an organization that has the best player and like the 4th best player on their team. - Wetbandit1
Jbotts scored us the first pick. That should count.

Guhle will be a sabre to start the 2018-19 season.
He will not need seasoning in rochester.

If he can stick and actually excel I"m all for it. But if its 50/50 he should be the Number 1 D in Roch. |

Yeah, Jack's contract was worth almost $4M annually, but with only the $925K cap hit. This year alone the Sabres have $6.35M in potential bonus money.
Edit: Late. Guess I should've red a bit further. - Wetbandit1
The bonuses do count against the cap, after they are earned. If there isn't enough cap room, they roll into the following season. The Leafs are getting hit for about 5.4m of carryover bonuses this year, which is almost as much as their LTIR relief.

klefbom is a better d-man and the 10th overall pick. - Sabresfan-365
Man, I don't know about that. Point shares(both offensive and defensive) point to Risto crushing him. More EV points per game. Klefbom had one good year offensively, and this year regressed badly. Risto is the model of consistency offensively, both EV and PP. There's almost no variance in the points numbers the last 3 years. Klefbom might be better defensively, but his zone starts also favor that because he gets pretty even zone starts whereas Risto, aside from this year, has been leaned on heavily in the D-Zone. And what do you know? When Risto got more O-Zone starts this year his CF% came way up.
Plus Klefbom is fairly injury prone. Risto's had 2 injuries and missed a grand total of 13 games to injury in the last 4 years. Klefbom has missed 90 games in the last 4 years. Those are almost Bogo numbers. Ok, not quite Bogo's missed 128! games in the last 4 years; though half of them came last year.
They're stylistically different as well. They've both played in 5 seasons, Klefbom is a year older, but Risto has a little more than a season's more worth of GP. Klefbom has on ice goals for of 53 in 66 games and on ice goals against of 66. Risto was 60 and 83 respectively in 73 games. Edmonton scored 35 more goals and allowed 17 less than the Sabres. |

For a while there they weren't even contenders even with those two.
Most of the pens people credit their turn around to his addition to the management team (not solely but enough that they felt it was worth mentioning).
he had crosby and malkin to work with, and found ways to add guys like Guentzel. Here he's got Eichel and Dahlin. Not as big as 87+71 but you get the idea. - Sabresfan-365
To say they weren't contenders isn't quite true. They were derailed by some pretty awful goaltending a few of those years after excellent regular seasons. Then Bylsma's message got stale along with the awful goaltending, then Sullivan came in and won back-to-back Cups. Johnston was a failed experiment. I actually totally forgot about him until I looked it up. |
