Alright, bear with me here. I'm gonna lay out all my reasons why I think JT is the wrong player, at the wrong position at the wrong time

Last 4 years, points

86
70
66
84

Minimum 77 games played

I wouldnt call that streaky, but it's not dominant.

11-11.5 is too much to pay for that.

We currently have Mittelstadt as an heir apparent to ROR at 2C

7 years is too long for someone who will be 28 when the season starts

He's gonna play with Wilson and Reinhart, just like ROR, so he's not getting elite wingers.

His skating will regress

He's making more than your franchise center

We already have awesome center depth.

ROR will put up 60-65 if he plays with Jack. A bit better than Girgensons. Side note: if we can find some wingers, Eichel, ror, mitts and ERod down the middle is such good center depth

7.5 is easier to move as the salary cap increases, should it become apparent that Mittelstadt is ready to be 2C

We need wingers, not centers.

That might not be all my reasons, but it's a good smattering

JT will not be going to the armpit of America....and this comes from someone from Detroit originally (now in Toronto).

Also, who wants to play somewhere where the young star thinks he’s a mega star and tries to run the team. He may become a real good player (already a good one) but man does he have a crappy attitude.

JT will stay on Long Island.

Holy crap learn some geography

The Arm pit of American is New Jersey

Jesus people if you want to make fun of Buffalo do it accurately

Put Risto in Myers spot on Winnipeg
And O’Reilly in line2 in an offensive role with Laine & Ehlers as his wings

Are their numbers better?
How about MUCH better?

The answer to those questions has to be “yes” and “there’s a good chance”

So tell me...
is it that ROR & Risto aren’t good?
Or is it that they’ve just been stuck in a terrible situation?

No one is saying they “move the needle” like Malkin or Doughty...
just that they can be good players who can be important pieces to a good team

If ROR was Winnipeg’s 2C,
and Risto was in their top4,
i think the Jets are still Cup contenders

- jdfitz77

which numbers? possession numbers, sure, and that would indicate neither is a high end player. Which is kind of the whole reason i would sell high on him. High end salary for non high end production or puck movement and at 27 years old. This is pretty much as good as it gets for him

What a sweet pass by McDavid and tip by ROR. Way to make himself available.

Thank you GMTM. Your services are appreciated and sorely missed.

Value wise sure

But right now you're not getting good value for ROR either

I would move ROR for a top line LWer with speed

I would use the cap savings to find a good goaltender and a good true defensive 3rd line center.

- Stripes77

I would too

And what do u think of O’Reilly?
Bc even if u rank him 40th,
that’s an above average 2nd liner

Thus,
why i get on u guys about the comparison

Big gap between an above average 2nd liner & an above average 3rd liner...
right?

- jdfitz77

I think he's bang average 2nd line material glorified by his zone starts, ice time and power play stats.

Most of his comparables in his situation (yes even the ones with heavy d-zone starts) are either making significantly less or producing significantly more.

My only issue is that

He is a ppg player well .96 ppg technically

That's top 10 in the league during that 4 year stretch

That's in all likelihood going to be 4/6 best years. 28 when his contract starts, 35 when it finishes. He probably has 2 of those years left, and coming to Buf, he'll be a 2C, not a 1C, so I see his points decreasing.

Anyway, just an alternative perspective

I really don't dislike his game, there are times where I am a fan of his game and times where I think he bailed on stuff

I don't hate his game, I hate his contract.

I hate the divide (allegedly) in the locker room

- Stripes77

If its ror vs. eichel , he obviously needs to go.

Aside from his questionable comments, I haven't noticed a lack of effort on the ice.

His contract is a factor, but when were paying for guys to join a losing environment .

I think that's been the prevailing opinion for a month. Out of 90, 55 and 23, 90 is the most likely to move

“So what might the Sabres expect to get or ask to get on Ryan O’Reilly? I understand teams interested in him are being told it would have to be very similar to the Mike Richards from Philadelphia to Los Angeles style of deal that was circa what, 2012. So it was six years ago. That year they traded Jeff Carter and Mike Richards – Carter to Columbus and Mike Richards to the Kings.

“Now, when Richards was traded back in 2012 to L.A., he was 26 years old at the time and the return for Richards from L.A. to Philly was a 22-year-old Wayne Simmonds, a 19-year-old Brayden Schenn – and keep in mind Brayden Schenn was a fifth overall pick in his draft year. Plus, in addition to Simmonds and Schenn, a second-round pick in that year’s draft.

“So I think the Sabres are kind of angling for that one really solid young player, one top-notch prospect – soon to be an NHL player, and a pretty significant pick – albeit it not necessarily a first-rounder. So that’s the going price, it would seem.

@Prospects_Watch

Dreger on Miller saying Buffalo would be a top contender for Tavares, sees it as a long shot, Dahlin is good but only 18 yrs old, he doubts that alone lures Tavares to Buffalo, doesn’t see them in the top 4 potential suitors for him.

I don't see him retiring so he'd go out like Pronger if injured.

Seems they think the league will have a much brighter twinkle in their eye for him than many on this board. Ya know, he only scores even strength, quiter, overpaid, TimHo's crashing SOB

I actually have no problem with that last one, their coffee is awful especially post burger king ownership. just another trash american owned company.

And it's no secret the best way to maximize return on an asset in the NHL (or any sport for that matter) is to exploit the gap between actual value and perceived value. If someone wants to make a bad trade, all ears.
