He's 120th in XGF/60 among D-men with 1000 or more minutes and somewhere in the bottom 60 in XGA/60.
Top 100 CF/60 for d-men 1000 or more minutes
Bottom 40 in CA/60
He's an offensive d-man sans puck movement ability. Ideal for the 2nd pair and some favourable zone starts. - Sabresfan-365
Looking over some more numbers, they certainly don't scream offensive d to me. If the case is that he's better offensively than defensively, I can't argue that at all. It's kind of gross to look at actually.

When Risto was out, Scandella filled in on the PP. I don't think anyone would give him an offensive label. If he had to fill in longer, and put up some more points, that wouldn't change how I characterized him as a defenseman.
Guhle is the only current Sabre I give that label to. - Lunaion
Scandella has had 21 13 22 = 56 points the past 3 seasons
Risto 41 - 45 - 41 ="127 points
That's a big difference.

I can still hear both. Though, it makes sense because, "yanny" isn't a word. |

I just learned on Tucker Carlson that 🇨🇦 is more of a destination for irregular arrivals than Trump's 🇺🇸. Way to go 🇨🇦! |

I am not a fan of ror
I am not a fan of risto
I do not think sam reinhart will ever play in an all star game
but...
the moves that should be made
try to move pommer, bogo, okposo, beaulieu
figure out who is playing net with ullmark (bernier IMO)
continue to develop rochester
and if ror, risto or reinhart is an issue this fall, ship them out
reinhart is a 22 year old who scored 25 goals, we can't score goals
risto was easily our best d man before the dahlin era, we suck on d
ror could very well be a decent player to have if we ever get good
rant over |

I would definitely argue for that - jcragcrumple
It’s just another stat that on its own, without context, is ridiculous
If ROR had wingers like Scheifele (Connor & Wheeler) or like Stastny (Laine & Ehlers)...
then the defensemen wouldn’t converge & attack on O’Reilly like they would with the wingers ROR mostly played with
Obviously the defense isn’t gonna respect Pouliot or Girgensons, or even decent players (but not great skaters) in Reinhart & Okposo
But none of that is ever considered when u just look at the one simple stat & don’t apply the particular situations or each player & team
I’ll say it again...
If O’Reilly was 2C instead of Stastny,
and Risto was in the top4 of the Jets defense...
Winnipeg would still be just as good & contending for the Cup |

if i'm not mistaken, he's one of only three sabres d-men to ever do that - Michael Pachla
Housley & who else?
Maybe someone in the Hasek era...
Zhitnik? Patrick?
Neither of them seem right though
What other “offensive” defenseman did we have over the years? |
