Any of the top 4 forwards or Dahlin/ Dobson/ Bouchard - manvanfan
BPA is subjective, just gotta hope your GM gets it right. |

I honestly think you need a good mix of both in a front office. Can’t go full analytics and can’t go full old school. - Nucker101
Agreed. At one time I would have argued old school for sure but times change. Today's NHL sure is showing you need to have diverse thinking in so many ways. |

I have no idea who's going to be the best d-man out of
Hughes
Boqvist
Bouchard
Dobson
But I would bet money that one of these 4 is going to bust big time.
I just hope it isnt our guy |

Quite a few players from the 2010 and 2011 draft had their best years ever. 24-25-26 year olds. Good players that took another step.
If Sam Bennett could be had for a 3rd rounder or down, or a prospect that isn't in Van's top 8 prospects. I would take him in a heart beat. |

I had a talk with bennets cousin back then and I told him he needs time in the minors and he disagreed, guess I was right. |

Now it's all downhill
Bennett takes WAY too many penalties.
He is the top 15 in minors taken, and he doesnt even have tough matchups.
I mean the top 15 has good players like Subban, and Hamilton etc.
Bennett is just lazy

Luke Schenn 57 7 21 28
Jared Cowen 48 7 14 21
E.Gudbranson 41 2 21 23
D. Siemens 72 5 38 43
G. Reinhart 58 12 24 36
S. Morin 46 4 12 16
These are most of the draft "busts" from 08-13. Picked higher up in their draft year and their draft year numbers.
Literally just going by the numbers. I wouldn't have taken any of them within the top 15.
All 4 of those guys above are ppg players in their leagues this season, except for Hughes who basically played up in years and was still close to a ppg. |

Yeah, I think scouts have smartened up in this regard in recent years |

I don't know which one of the four won't live up to expectations that is why I say draft a forward |

Most of those guys are big body guys that from what I can remember and even now, aren't very good at skating. If you can't put up numbers in Junior leagues, chances of you doing it in the NHL are slim.
I wonder if some of those players were drafted much later, would the pressure be off and they turn out differently.
I think the difference between Merkley and Boqvist (both ppg players, same size, same attributes) is that Boqvist makes an attempt at playing defence and is trying. Where Merkley just plain sucks and doesn't seem to get it.
I think Merkley has the worst plus/minus of all defenders in the draft. |

Merkley should be a winger. Probably wouldn’t be as good offensively, but at least he wouldn’t kill his team defensively. I’d hate being that guy’s teammate. |

What if the forward busts?
We have three failures from the top of the first round already, potentially more, thankfully only one so far is Bennings (Virtanen). This has gotta stop! |

Better % in the top of the draft with forwards.
That is why if your team is lousy , you tank and not win meaningless games . We should be drafting top 3 every year not 5 67 |

I lean towards him as well.
He wasnt even in the 2nd tier league in the SHL |
