Thanks to trading a 30 goal scorer and top 9 forward allowed Bjugstad to have his best season ever.
They gave up 75 and 44 for 49 points. Dale Tallon answered defence wins championships. - manvanfan
Good for Bjugstad, bad for Florida |

Wrong
We're talking about what Benning started with
Kesler was coming off of a 25 goal season and was nominated for the Selke with the Ducks lol
Edler just this year is coming off of his 4th highest point total ever.
Sedins put up 70 point seasons during Benning's first year here - Nucker101
The Sedin's were 34.
Kesler was his least productive season 6 years.

Imagine prioritizing a 3rd line talent and a 4/5 dman at best over a guy who just scored 30 goals for you and another guy who scored 50 points in 2 of his 4 years as a 26 year old |

It's like getting 2 for 1 for Vegas. Like who wouldn't take that deal. |

he got a lot of quality prospects that were NHL ready and untested to pick certain players. He was lucky that a lot of them proved to be NHL players and William had a break out year. But i remember myself and someone else saying we should hire Gallant and fire Willy mid season and were laughed at. - Retinalz
yep....that was me. Gallant was my #1 pick early on....he was picked up quick by vegas. |

they put up up 70+ points, don't give a poop how old you are. you put up 70 points, you're a star player.
Kesler was nominated for a Selke with the Ducks so I guess the league disagrees that he was way over the hill.
Burrows, Higgins, Bieksa, etc were the guys who were declining hard |

I assume Tallon thought Marchessault was a fluke and that Smith was going to be a cap anchor. |

I read he thought he was too small and that was a fluke year because of injuries. |

Even Yzerman let Marchessault walk before he signed with the Panthers, obviously he didn't really breakout in Tampa but I do remember the analytics nerds liking him even back then. |

Canucks just need to continue building through the draft and focus on skill and speed. |

Can't really blame Columbus with Karlsson, no one saw that coming. Florida, Minny, Nashville really helped them out big time. Minny was in a tough spot though
Surprised Nashville didn't just trade Neal. Guess they preferred to keep Smith/Sissons instead of losing 2 forward since Vegas likely takes Smith/Sissons if Nashville traded Neal.
Florida was just plan stupid, lol at giving up a 30 goal scorer + another top 9 forward just to protect Bjugstad and Petrovic - Nucker101
They needed to protect him to trade him and get Guddy back from us. Guddy for Bjugstad |

I know what you are saying but I think trades are a big deal also. Getting a 20-30 pick for Tanev and moving out pieces over the next 2 years like Sutter Gudbrandson Sven Granlund Hutton while they still have value. You pick up a third line center and then Sutter is expendable . Build through the draft yes but get more picks. We know we will suck next year so make sure you draft high. |

For sure, we've yet to see Benning add picks through trades because he's been trying to be competitive. |

We'll see, but I don't see coach Green feeding him those minutes next year? |
