If I am Botterill I am not eating any salary in a ROR deal. That is dead cap space when he will need it the most.
Bogo sure I would eat some there but ROR not a chance unless the return was crazy high - Stripes77
I think the common complaint among many complaints about ror is his salary. Which we discussed.
Hes being paid 1-2 million more then his worth?
Aside from the buffatax.
If other teams see the same issue, wouldn't he be super tradeable if we pay for part of his salary?
The next 5 years holding back at 1.5 per isnt a huge deal in my opinion.
Depending on the trade, we could get a player back and/or draft pick that would be on his entry nhl deal. That would offset some of his kept salary
The killer deals are bogo at 5 plus for nothing

Entering the 2018 season, O'Reilly is tied for the 27th highest cap hit in the NHL. Since arriving in Buffalo he has scored the 28th most points in the league. In today's NHL O'Reilly isnt overpaid. |

You are the 1st person to point out that ror isnt overpaid.
In 3 years of him being a sabre |

I am trying to find the article that had point totals.
edit: That might have been on the radio. I am surprised I cannot find a database on the internet that allows me to combine seasons. |

On Hughes
Dahlin is certainly the better player but I don't think the gap is as big as some may think. When we compare their careers 5 years from now, I don't think they'll be so far apart.

Wouldn't be something else if Buffalo Sabres would pull a fast one and pick Quinn Hughes 1st overall?

Yes that is not saying Hughes is better than Dahlin. They asked wouldnt it be something if the sabres did that. |

We needed to overpay for him, he was a year from being a ufa |

Kevin Musto
Hawks
He's in the same tier as Svech and Dahlin. If he doesn't get drafted at #3, every re-draft in the next few years will.

Worlds >>> World Juniors
I think Hughes is better now, the future is a different matter.
There's the age difference, Hughes is ahead in development.
- also, every single Swede develops slower vs other nationalities,
its a proven fact, why Dahlin be any different?
Not playing at the worlds, because his body isn't ready for this level of hockey yet
didn't dominate the ice as a d-man in the SHL, was far away from best d-man,
played really well (most of the time) but, didn't dominate, didn't play the way of the hype.
Hughes is playing at the worlds and everyone can see how really well he has played so far,
his role has grown (from 7th to 6th) so, we can all see him play even more so from now on.
Like McAvoy was NHL ready, is Hughes, Dahlin is not.
Now obviously, these are all my opinions and my opinions only

A question for all you guys that want to trade Risto, I have a couple of questions for you:
1) Who is going to be our #1 RHD - Bogo or Nelson?
2) Which Sabre is actually going to hit and irritate someone? With Foligno gone, Nolan sucking and Falk likely headed to Rochester, Girgs becomes our heavy hitter.
3) Who is going to play his minutes? Assuming Bogo is hurt after 8 games, who is going to play Risto and Bogo's right-handed d minutes?
So, we are contemplating to trade from an area of weakness (RHD) our best asset in order to get a "fast scoring winger" for Jack. How about trying guys like EROD, Baptiste, Bailey or CJ Smith in this position before we go out and make stupid trades that will result in creating massive holes elsewhere. - SabreWest

I watched Hughes and Dahlin last summer at the showcase. Hughes impressed me more. That's nothing against Dahlin every scout has him as the best Swede since Lidstrom. Might prove to be true. He seems like a good kid and has tons of talent. Using the eye test from last summer I think Hughes will be better than Dahlin and his brother Jack who will probably be the overall number 1 next season. Scouts have been wrong before and so have I...lol Good luck to both players.

You make a few decent points, but you lose it all at the end. You can't suggest trying an assortment of bottom 6 forwards on the top line, but playing anyone else on the top pair is irrational. - Lunaion
Not really
U often see 3rd line types playing with an outstanding Center & still are useful players
Obviously you’d prefer to have Kessel/Hornqvist play with Crosby or Malkin,
But when they’ve let guys like Sheary & Kuhnackle, etc fill in the line has still been successful
Pretty rare (i think) that i can play a 3rd pair quality defenseman 20+ minutes a night against top talent & not see him get taken advantage of |
