youre citing incompetent young talent and then saying the young talent will make us better? Im lost, all i got from this is that grubauer will save us for the cost of some draft picks. - Sabresfan-365
Incompetent was supposed to say “incoming”
Stupid autocorrect
I listed a bunch of ways we’d improve without us making big ROR like trades
And don’t act like good goaltending can’t make a difference
Like i pointed out,
look what it did for Winnipeg |

But everyone was ready to sign JT for 7 years when he'll be 28 to start the season - jcragcrumple
Oh come now, don't bring that to the table. The difference in talent is monumental. |

So it's a Bogo dump, probably going with the premise that unless Hagelin wants 2M or less, he'll be released. So it's 6M (instead of 5.1) for year 1 and 2M (if released) for year 2, instead for 5.1M.
This kind of move really depends on the moves they make this year, because there's no one in for a huge payday after this season. - TheSabresTaco
Partially yeah, the 3.1 mil you save the following year can help you add a little something extra, whether it's in the off season or the deadline. |

I really don't need to relitigate this point, but age is only applicable to ROR in these conversations, it seems |

I consider myself a reasonable middle ground party in all of this nonsense, and even I know that's like one of the last things people consider with this player. It's a factor, but it's like reason #7 |

yeah, im saying you're betting a lot of things going right using guys with very little NHL experience.
Didn't grubauer poop the bed for the caps at the start of the playoffs? I just think it pays to have the team sorted first. Hellebuyck was monumental for the Jets, but the Jets put together a helluva team first. We're not there, yet. |

Winnipeg has the best young sniper in the league and also a 90 point center
On top of that they finally got improved goaltending.
Winnipeg built through the draft and made some good trades
Drafting Dahlin is a huge start for the Sabres but they still don't have that sniper to play with their stud center. - Stripes77
Winnipeg also had Scheiffle & Laine last year when they missed the playoffs
The only thing that’s significantly changed for them this year,
is that their goalie play was MUCH better
If we get a goalie,
that could also be true for us
AND
Our defense should be much better
Which also helps the offense,
and all the young kids coming into the lineup who actually have scoring potential
We are poised to improve significantly in all 3 areas of our team
That’s gonna make a difference
How much?
To be determined
But much like the Jets...
our good young talent (Jack, Casey, Dahlin, etc) will continue to improve as well over the next few |

We turned down a 6th rounder last year. I doubt anyone's offering much of anything for him now - Sabresfan-365
Not saying we’d get a great return...
did i?
I’m fine with a pick for him
Better than taking someone’s Cap dump & retaining salary
Makes zero sense |

Hagelin scores 10 goals & costs 4mil
Why on earth would u want to bring that here?
Not that he’s terrible or anything,
but it’s also not like HE was responsible for the Pens winning
He’s their Pouliot, but WAY overpaid
If we do trade for him,
it’s doing Pitt a big favor with the Cap
So we better get a discount on another player with him
Like when we took Pommer & got a deal on Scandella - jdfitz77
Haglin is an upgrade over what we have, fits the North-South tempo hockey Botts wants to play. Only on contract (I believe) for another 1-2 years. He’s a stop gap until we improve our wing depth. |

Mccabe or Scandella + pick #32 and Nylander should get you a very, very nice top-6 LW - jcragcrumple
These guys equate to:
Mccabe= 2nd founder
Scandella = 2nd rounder
Pick 32= 2nd rounder
Nylander =2 round value
So basically (4) 2nd rounders for a very nice top 6?
Seams doubtful |

The ROR "bashing" is getting overblown.
There are things that many posters like about his game and many things the same posters don't like.
Take for example me:
I like that he can play big minutes. I like that he is a consistent 60 point player. I do like that he takes every key faceoff.
I don't like his contract. I don't like certain qualities about his leadership or lack there of.
I like that he has a ton of value around the league.
I like that any deal that involves him should be an overpayment (or at least a good haul) and the Sabres should win out on the trade.
This isn't a post to bash ROR, this is a post that can look at the make up of the team currently, can look at the system the head coach wants to play, and can look at who on the roster would fetch the most in a return that may or may not be part of the long term plans of the GM.
Obviously Jack is in the long term plans.
By process of elimination ROR is the one that I would want to see dealt FOR THE RIGHT DEAL.
I don't understand why it's so hard for people to understand this. - Stripes77
I happen to be on the side of trade ROR while his value is high ... not by much though.
The issue with system fit is I believe two-fold:
- many fans don’t understand systems, hence the qualities required to play fast north-south system de jour is something hard to define...it’s not plainly evident like football 3-4 vs 4-3 D systems.
- many fans believe that the coach should bend their system to match the skill set of the existing players...there is merit here, but...
What we have here (is a failure to communicate, lol) is a mishmash of players I’ll suited for any one system. They couldn’t play Bylsma stretch pass done breakout strategy and they can’t play Housley’s fast thinking, quick movement, solid passing puck movement system either.
So I believe it is on management to move players who don’t fit the current system ... and not have a failed attempt at a 3rd System ala new coaching staff.
Hence, let the purging begin with a movement towards players who who can and will play the system de jour.
ROR doesn’t fit it, questionable if Risto wans to play it, and Sam is on the fence...looks like he figured out how to play within it.
Lastly, you have to give to get...another reason to move quality players who don’t fit.
Really lastly (for this post) moving Girgensons + for Hamlin maybe a start...but if that is representative of the type of moves JBotts wants to do...let’s negotiate with Seattle for trading franchises, lol! |
