That's gerbe level math. it's 3.1 mil the following year. hagelin has one year left, bogo has two.
The whole point in having 3.1 mil in space is to find someone better than bogo anyways. I don't want the space for the sake of having space, I'd want it to have the opportunity to do what you just said, replace bogo.
Edit: if you go back to the last blog. I didn't even suggest that it was necessarily a good idea, just an idea worth considering.
Good grief what is wrong with you? - Sabresfan-365
3.1 in space - whatever we pay the players replacing Hagelin & Bogo
So now your talking 1-1.5mil in extra room
Again...

On this Vegas point, isn't St.Louis the only other team to go the final in their first year?
And is it their only appearance? |

The thing with that is. This team had 25 Wins all season.
Twenty freaking five.
Say they pick up 50% of those one goals games next year. They are still a sub .500 club.
It's asinine to think this team is anything but bad.
the lowest # of goals scored.
the worst goal differential in the NHL. - ImThatGuy
Their shooting percentage was one of the worst on record
They can't score, they can't prevent goals from getting scored on them, but you know they lost 20 1 goal games...
They are bad, really really bad.
1 player in Dahlin isn't going to make this team a playoff team.
There needs to be changes, and lots of them.
There needs to be time to develop the good young players on this roster.
The problem I see is the core of this group is so young that when they are eventually firing on all cylinders the Sabres aren't going to be able to keep all of them because of their ELC's being up and new contracts kicking in.
If it takes 3 years for everyone to really be firing you will have Dahlin at or near $10 million, Mittelstadt around $8 million, Nelson around $5 million, Guhle around $6 million and of course Jack at $10 million with a possible ROR at $7.5 million.
It scares me.
This young talent (in a perfect world) should be put in a lineup ready to make waves, but instead this young talent is expected to be the ones to right the ship.
It is not a good outlook unless there are some major changes. |

then we are in pretty good shape |

24th - Stripes77
And do we keep getting better in the following years?
Or are we stuck around 24th?
For the record,
I think we are a playoff contender next year
(as long as we get a goalie) |

Idk that Girgs isn’t better than Hagelin if u played him next to Malkin all year
Hagelin is just a guy
10goals last year
6 the year before
He’s not doing anything to help us really
Unless he’s some magical leader who can give a speech that will “change the culture”
Blah blah blah - jdfitz77
He brings the speed element. I never said he was going to be a game changer, or that he’d be my #1 option. But his speed would be a welcome addition on this team. |

A true #1 defensemen that should be a Norris Trophy finalist his entire career is getting $10 million
A 60-70 point 2nd line center is already making $7.5 million this season in 2 years he will be getting at least $8
A true 1st pairing guy is going to get $6 million Risto is currently making $5.4
A good 2nd pairing guy makes $4 million now, he will be getting $5 million in 3 years.
Again it is going to take some time for these players to find their game, but this is what we are expecting from them to be.
If anything I am understating what they're going to be making |

Bailey & Baptiste are fast
and have the ability to score 10goals (or more)
and cost WAY less
Sorry man,
i just don’t see how it makes sense to bring in an overpaid, fast player, who can’t score |

Maybe a true playoff contender in 2019-2020 but there are so many holes on this team that they could be stuck in that 20th-24th range. |

And if they’re all so good that they can demand those deals...
then we are in good shape |

actually they made it 3 years in a row
"The Blues were originally coached by Lynn Patrick, who resigned in late November after recording a 4–13–2 record. He was replaced by assistant coach Scotty Bowman, who thereafter led the team to a winning record for the rest of the season. Although the League's rules effectively kept star players with the original six teams, the Blues managed to stand out in the inferior Western Division. Capitalizing on a playoff format that required an expansion team to make it to the Stanley Cup Finals, the Blues reached the Stanley Cup Finals in each of their first three seasons, though they were swept first by the Montreal Canadiens in 1968 and 1969, then by the Boston Bruins in 1970."
