Simply because MB will say Price + Weber = Tavares to MTL.

We had 9 million in cap space and we get rid of Weber's 7.something million. We ain't doing too bad.

I don't think Tavares will sign here, either. And I agree, we should ditch as much as possible from the roster to get solid prospects that will develop together in 2-3-4 years.

But until Tavares officially decides where he is going, I don't see MB doing anything significant to the roster that will have any veteran players moved out.

And, if by some strange miracle Tavares does sign, I expect MB to throw assets away to get more "veteran" type players to play around Tavares, making things ultimately worse.

It is all a PR move... he knows he has like a 0.0000001% chance of getting Tavares, but he wants to make it look like he really tried.
