I'm not sure about that. At the rate he is fallen he may end up a Third Round pick (which unfortunately we do not have) so I wouldn't waste what is essentially a late 1st round pick, considering how deep this draft is suppose to be, on a player like Merkley. Also, unless a great defender drops I think the Sabres need to go Left Shoot C/W with pick 32 after taking Dahlin #1.

When you have players like Barzal & Boeser falling to the late teens, early twenties that is something the Sabres really need to start doing if they hope to be Cup Contenders some day. Also, they have to start playing good enough to end up with a pick like that rather then the where we have been picking lately (which is also needed to be competitive in today's NHL)

When you consider the fact that both Pavelski & Couture will be UFAs in 2019 and given what Kane just signed for it will cost a pretty penny to retain those 2, we may be better off getting the 2020 first. I feel there is a greater chance the Sharks really start to fall in 2019-2020 season compared to next Season.

I also have this bad feeling that the Sabres will need to Draft a Franchise LW for Eichel and may need a high pick to do it. Then again there is a very realistic chance that Olofsson may turn into a 30-40 goal winger for Eichel. The problem there is he has to be given a real shot at becoming a first line winger and not be kept on the 3rd/4th line like the Sabres tend to do for all the players they don't draft in the first round.

I personally think he’s very underrated. Scores 25 a year without a bonafide C. I’d love him. He has wheels too that fits the mold of the team wants to ice.
