Are you not interested in trading it, or just not Hoffman?
I'd definitely trade the pick this summer. If the pick is used by the Sabres next year, we're probably not gonna see the player in the NHL til 2021 or 22 at the earliest, or if the pick is bounced til 2020, he won't be in the NHL til 2022 or 23 |

I really don’t want do that the team is going to decline + Joe Pavelski and Logan are free agents next year I think they made a huge mistake signing kane

So Kane resigning:
We now have the latest pick of the 1st round (Sabres, 32nd overall), and one of the earliest picks of the second round (21, sjs)
So do we have 3 picks in the first round this year? - jcragcrumple
ohhhh myyyy
No, how many picks do we have? That's how many are 1st overalls
Also, the pick is a 2019. |

That would make the pick more attractive to another GM. If that pick gets us a primo goalscoring LW, then I would pull the trigger at the draft. |

Which is fine. We need to stock the pipeline with talent that won't get her for a few years. We have a very big crop of prospects coming into Rochester this year, not all will have a roster spot at some point with the Sabres. And, we'll be in cap hell in a few seasons, so we need the cheap ELC players to be there 4-5 years from now. |

I don't understand why so many people want to trade for Jeff Skinner. He's had some good seasons, but I don't think he is what we need. Now before anyone jumps on me about needing more offense, let's compare some stats:
Games G. A TP +/-
Player 1 579 204 175 379 -96
Player 2 574 186 168 354 -50
Player 1 is 26 y/o, has never played a playoff game, has not missed a lot of time, but has had 3 concussions, and would cost assets to obtain and would likely be looking to get $7m+ on his next contract.
Player 2 is 26 y/o, has just played in the playoffs for the first time, has missed time due to injuries, and is set to make $7m/ 7 years.
Now that are definitely differences in Skinner and Kane's games, but I don't see giving up what I've seen proposed for Skinner. I would rather have O'Reilly at $7.5 than Skinner at $7m. O'Reilly has a better all around game (Skinner is bad defensively.) If it wasn't for off ice issues, I'd rather have Kane than Skinner.
All that being said, if you're trading O'Reilly, you better be asking for someone like Tarasenko. Add a pick or a Baptiste/Bailey if you need, but that would be the type of player you're looking for. Most of the NHL apparently think much higher of ROR than most posters here, but the truth is, he is a valuable asset and any trade involving him will prove that. - adambuffalo
Im not gonna speak for everyone on the bolded but I don't think many of us think ROR sucks and just want to get rid of him.
Its more the move the NHL is making towards faster skilled players, not saying ROR is not skilled, bc he is. But at this point our roster has no wingers of prominence to play a top six role, we have Eichel and Casey to Play centre for the next while. Given his cap hit, his age, his position and the fact that a team trading for him would only have to pay him 1m if traded after July 1, he has a lot of value on the market to get us some pieces we may need more than ROR going forward.
I like the game he plays, not so much his drab post game comments, but I believe all rational posters here want to move ROR because his value is high and may start to decrease as he ages.

Have until June 1st to sign, Budik, Hagel, and Osmanski… who gets a contract?

I saw somewhere Osmanski was not being offered a contract. Budik and Hagel a question mark, but general sense wasn't positive. Just my personal speculation. |

I like him but I couldn’t select him too high. I’d value many first-time eligible players that have greater footspeed ahead of him at 32. His shooting and offense are valuable but I’d only offer a 2019 conditional mid-round pick if I had thoughts on developing him. |

Very well said.
Trade players who play a position in which a surplus exists while their value is high, in exchange for players of skill and proven production at positions of need. |
