When players have injury’s they don’t (frank)ing call up Scott Wilson the save the day ..
It’s ridiculous that you even suggesting that Don’t you want to win ? - gerbe75pts
They're not calling up Scott Wilson, they're just asking him to play 14 minutes instead of 12.
You're acting like this is a new philosophy. When your second line winger is hurt, you usually move your third line winger up. |

He's not a top-6 player, but he didn't embarrass himself playing there. Gus was clearly a fish out of water - jcragcrumple
Gus is the best LW on the team and one of the best two-way forwards on the roster....and some people don't want to see a significant trade this summer.

I would say Wilson is currently (or Erod or mitts depending on how you view their positions), but I doubt that's how it ends up by September |

why do six games at the end of the year matter in that instance?...personally I think he'll make a great center, right behind jack on the depth chart...
I see absolutely no problem moving him to a top-six role on the wing in his first season...and I don't think it will matter to him, nor will it do any harm to his development - Michael Pachla
I think 3C and PP duties to start are good for him IMO. Assuming O’Reilly is here |

People hate Girgs a little too much. He's a solid two way player, better than Wilson. If either of those two are on your top six for an extended time, you have problems. Maybe ERod is better, but I view him as bottom six as well. Not going to call Mittelstadt a LW until he plays a game there.
They really need to add 2 LW's. |

I think that's their plan...and that's fine...maybe it's just me wanting to see a line of mitts-jack-skunk...real young trio with a lot of skill |

He's a decent 1-way player (defense) he played the majority of his season with either Eichel or ROR and mustered 15 points.
As long as he's left on the 4th line, or as the extra forward, he won't hurt you, but he's not gonna help you. He's the definition of expendable

He was a better 5v5 player last year than Okposo. Not really arguing with you much here, this team is packed with bottom 6/AHL fowards, but very few are strong defensively. Girgs is replaceable, but I don't think they have a suitable replacement right now.

People say we need to move ROR and his contract because this team isn't close to contending but they want to sign Tavares with the chance he's gonna get 10-11 a year and we still aren't close to contending. Makes sense to me
-Sabres89
I’m probably the biggest O’Reilly supporter on here... going all the way back to wanting to trade Girgensons for him after we drafted him
That said...
IF
-we can trade O’Reilly for a winger for Jack
AND
-we can sign Tavares to replace/upgrade RORs spot
Well, idk how anyone could object to that?
The key would be what we do to replace O’Reilly if we can’t get Tavares to sign...

They were ready to give Stamkos 11-11.5 a year, that worked out well didn't it. Can't make him any kind of offer unless you move ROR and they aren't sold on that as of yet. - SABRES 89
Stamkos stayed with one of the best teams in the league with lots of talent around him
Tavares doesn’t have that option
That doesn’t mean he will choose us...
but it sure looks like he’s moving on
I’d take a shot at him
Don’t see the downside |

Okposo's goals per 60, A1 per 60, points per 60 are all well ahead of Girgensons by at least a2-1 margin and at times a 3-1 margin

put him on a line with ror and vanek then - homiedclown
Like u said,
Vanek is the OPPOSITE of what Botts wants
Unless you’re bringing in top line talent...
Tavares, JvR, etc...
Then let the kids battle it out for the open spots
At the very least they can bring speed & be coached to play the style Botts/Housley are looking for
If 1 or 2 of those guys can contribute,
then we are (at least) in better shape than the Scrubs we played last year
Can’t find out if we don’t let them play though
And i don’t mean 8min a night with Nolan & Josefson on line4 |

Okposo isn’t nearly as bad as ppl make him out to be
His first half was likely due to him not being able to work out in the summer & get prepared for the season
That said...
-his contract isn’t great
-he’s the oldest of all the guys we have signed long term (just turned 30)
-his speed isn’t quite what we are looking for, so may not “fit” what Botts wants to do
So...
-play him this year with Eichel, and on the top PP unit
-that should get his numbers back up to the point where we can trade him...
even if it’s not for a great return
*that’s another 6mil off the books... to add to the 5.5 coming off from Pommer, and 5mil gone from Moulson
*leaving us only with Bogo for 1 more year as our only “bad” contract
Our Cap situation isn’t bad at all
Moving Okposo puts us in really nice shape
We just have to make him as marketable as possible
Showcase him, get his numbers up, trade him

Okposo is fine short term. It’s the fact that he’s signed long term that’s the issue.
I really hope he returns to form, especially with all he’s been through. Seems like a nice guy too |

Makes sense to me. I like his game with Eichel. If he has a 55-60 point season, we would probably be able to trade him
