Nah, all those points have sound reasoning.

I didn’t say trading him would ruin the franchise

- Nucker101

Sure, I think they're fair points, I don't think they have any more merit than mine though, which is moving Tanev now to continue building for the future through the draft this year.

If he was offered 2 seconds then GMs don’t appreciate tanev. Either that or his value has fallen due an injury plagued season
- CanuckDon

I think it's fair value, I'm not sure you'd get max value, we're talking about hypothetical things here and there's always the "Benning factor" to consider. I don't know if Benning was offered anything, what I'm saying is I'd take that offer if one of the 2nds was a high 2nd.

To me, you're suggesting we forego getting two seconds (in theory) for Tanev because you want to help insulate the kids and improve in the standings by a couple or four spots.....did I get that right?

I'm saying who cares about improving two or four spots and get the picks for Tanev and continue to build through the draft.

- LeftCoaster

I’ll solve this for both of you, trade Hutton for a second, trade Stecher for a second and keep Tanev for the trade deadline.

I do realize that asking for a second for either of those two is a pipe dream, but if they convince some people here they’re decent then maybe some other GM would bite.

Everybody wants to have 2 seconds , but you have to weigh the costs. If you have a new Goalie first year and a new young Dman and the other team is skating by them scoring at will , how will that help their confidence ? You are going to have 3-4 new guys joining the team and you want to ease them in , not send send them out to a fire drill.

Have your replacements ready . At this time we don't have a replacement for Tanev .

It will take time. Last year on a number of occasions the second unit came on and scored in their 30 seconds of PP time.

The PP went through the twins last year so a lot of those points were gifted. It will now become a 5 man PP instead of a 3 man.

- VANTEL

PP improved because of Boeser but Sedins got him the puck. I'm as excited as anyone about EP but I doubt he comes in and can replace 2 of the most successful PP players the past 15 years.

To me the difference between keeping Tanev and signing a UFA like say, I don't know, Tobias Enstrom or any one of these guys http://www.spotrac.com/nh...ee-agents/defenseman/ufa/ is negligible.

Personally I take the picks and move on, but hey, that's just me.

Benning made his mind up about moving Tanev the day he resigned Guddy IMO. It will happen but there is no way he envisioned paying a Dman 4 million to play 15 minutes a night and that's what will happen if you keep Tanev.

I did say it would take time. Sedins said yesterday it was about year 7 the finally began to feel comfortable. I expect the same with Pettersson.

I do think we are years away but I hope a little better every year.

I looked at the UFA list before I made any comment today. It sucks . The very few that play 1RD are about 3 and will cost a bundle and be in high demand.

I think Gudbrandson will be moved. I think he was signed so he wouldn't walk for free but I bet that is on Bennings top 5 list of things to do.

As I said, I don't think that's the best way forward, keeping Tanev if you can get two 2nds for him, but that's the difference between how I'd like to build the team and how Benning wants to build the team.

So far he hasn't taken advantage of the draft, other than to draft high in the first from sucking.

2014 I was excited when he got in a position to draft twice in the 1st round, twice in the 2nd round and twice in the 3rd round.....then he traded two of those picks away and it's been all downhill from a draft perspective since then.

I am not a Benning supporter at all , but I want to see what he does this summer. I want to see his trades and acquisitions . If he picks up a center and Dman in a trade and a top 6 winger then kudos . He has a lot of pieces (even though not blue chip) he can use to make moves.

I just hope Benning does something aside from spending money on free agents. Getting assets from contracts with 1-2 years left. Also want Reinhart and Max Domi, would prefure Domi with Horvat and Boeser then Baertchi

I have no faith in his trading abilities, he's come out on top of one trade, potentially, the Dahlen trade. Every other one he's lost.

Where he has done well, potentially or at least on paper, is on the draft floor. But he never takes full advantage of it.

Hansen for Goldy and a 4th was a win. Bieksa and Garrisson for 2nds, unfortunate he then traded them but still

Yeah I'd agree with that, he turned Hansen into Goldobin, Gunnarsson and Palmu.
