My beef is with all the cap space we finally have, the LAST thing I want to see Ron do is take another 4th line guy. Guess I got tired of all the crap (Wiess, Gordon, Lubymov, Medvedev, Odouya, etc...) Now there was little cap space to work with in those instances, but not now. And we need a 3rd line center to help score, or a 2nd pairing RHD.
Leave the bottom six to the young guys to earn their spot, especially a LW. - WhirlingDervish
Other than Weise, all of those other moves were no risk moves that had no long term cost. The Flyers have tons of cap space to work with. Far more than what they had when they made those moves. I don't advocate that Hextall go on a spending spree and I agree with you that I'd rather see players promoted from within.

I really hope this is a joke.

He sucks so it seems like someone they might target for a 4th line role |

Is he RH? - Just5
There are a number of RHD's ticketed for the 1st round and 3 or 4 in the top 20. With the Flyers having zero RHD prospects beyond Myers, I wouldn't mind them taking 2 RHD's in the 1st round.
Any LW they take would be at least a few years away anyway, but if Meyers has continued injury issues next year, we're screwed... |

I’d be fine with a move down in the first round. I’d like more swings. Yes...Myers needs to come through. He has too much potential |

This place is going to be in flames if they take two D men in the 1st.
I certainly won't mind them taking a RHD, so long as it isn't a reach over a much better player.
I really want them to grab a forward at 14 or move up from 14 to grab a forward. They could really use one more top flight scoring forward in the system right now. |

I'd be ok with RHD too but man they are in a good spot to grab a F or two and that's what I hope they do |

What's wrong with Ovechkin? He looks like he's playing half-dazed. |

I was pretty high on Denisenko at 19 based off his highlight reel but it sounds like he has an issue with taking some really poor penalties.
Still, at LW this team be too choosey. Any LW they get in the 1st is going to be a big add for our system. |

Not a dealbreaker though right? Seems like a maturity thing that can be ironed out. I’ll take a chance. Some say he is as skilled as svechnikov. |

Left - YuenglingJagr
Regularly plays both sides. There will be better players at 19, I imagine, and I’m quite high on Mattias. I don’t care about lefty or righty — that’s how you make worse picks.
I also strongly disagree with the idea a defenseman is BPA at 19. Not that you said it. It’s possible but not clearly — I think it drops a tier from the forwards like Berggren, Kravtsov, Denisenko, Kaut. Any of which at 19 is BPA, I believe. Berggren at 19 is still my dream of dreams. Kid is for real. And I think to take a d-man you just trade down from 19. |

I meant left handed.
I do agree that unless someone falls I like forwards in our range, but I do like the idea of restocking the defense

A name I've circled as a potential big steal is Danila Zhuravlyov. I watched him at u18s for Russia, was intrigued, went back and watched a handful of his games in the MHL. I honestly think he's a 1st round talented d-man and ridiculously underrated. He shines to me in his games, and I've seen everyone -- he's above or with a lot of these more hyped guys, statistically and on tape. IQ, skills, offense, skating, some good d-zone compete, everything. 6 ft, neither small or big. I don't know if he's a 2nd rounder or 3rd or 4th on draft day, but he's close to top 20 for me personally, and I'd take him at our 2nd rounder in a heartbeat. Top 4 potential d-man added to the system without a high pick for my money. I feel as confident with him as you can for a steal.
Nils Lundkvist and Spencer Stastney are two other d-men I have ranked relatively aggressively. Maybe a 2nd and mid rounder respectively. I just don't love the value of a d-man at 19. Looking at my rankings, I have Tychonick, Zhuravlyov, Miller, Sandin, Samuelsson all grouped relatively close together in the late teens-early 20s before a gap to Lundkvist/McIsaac. Only Miller might be necessary to pick at #19, and I do like him, but those other guys will be available later or a round later, and I think are equally effective players, albeit without K'Andre's raw tools, at better value. Makes the idea of 2 forwards more palatable. I hate anything but BPA, and I think that's 2 forwards. |
