Backreading paid off, because I got to see another fan of Dellandrea. I'd love him at 32. Really like what I've read on Bokk too. - PrinceChill
Most mock drafts have Dellandrea between 21-27, I think we need to move up if we want him. |

Looking at previous drafts though the amount of top line wingers past the first round are few and far between. Maybe a couple come out of that round, but wouldn't a 2nd or 3rd line winger be about as good as you can hope for on average?
I'm just thinking that with Nylander, Pu, Baptiste, Bailey and Malone we have some bottom 6 depth on the way at least. If that is the case, then I'd rather shoot for a defender who can be a 2nd or 3rd pairing guy for us in a few years when the cap situation gets tight. If there is a top line talent available (Jack's winger) then I'm completely wrong, but figured that wasn't feasible in the 2nd round. - RhinoFan
I agree.
at 32, take a bit of a gamble on a D-man...if you hit...that is one valuable asset to have...or at least makes an existing asset expedable to help improve the team.
Forwards are much easier to acquire than quality Dmen. especially if you have "aces" at the C position who make their linemates better. |

It's been widely speculated that this is a very deep draft reminiscent of 2015, where you can find top 6/4 talent into the 3rd round. Of course, you need to bring your scouting A game, but there is a lot of talent here with hiccups like desire, speed, size, physicality, 200' game.. most of the 2nd rounders have are above average to great skaters, they just need more development time. There's no reason we can't find a top 6 talent at 32. We just have to be patient. |

Problem there is we don't own a 3rd rounder, unless you count the first pick in the 4th round as a 3rd rounder that is |

Exactly. I think we can build off a strong center position if we have puck movers and strong defenders backing them up. If we do have those aces, we don't necessarily need to invest heavily in those linemates up front. Not saying it isn't a position of need, but I agree. |

The mocks I've looked at recently didn't have Della in the 1st, but the NHL draft is pretty unpredictable so it's anyone's guess who falls past 31. To be honest, I just did a little bit of research with the intention of finding a player or two or three to root for falling to 32.
Book is almost certainly a pipe dream at 32. |

Owners have opinions on players - jcragcrumple
This is how Ehrhoff was brought in. Owners have a say, to varying degrees. They own the team. But they don't build the team. I would say the farthest they go is speaking with their GM about a player they like, like you or I or anyone would, and the GM would give his thoughts and pursue the player if it made sense. Ultimately, it's always on the GM on who he brings to the team. He's the one who decides who fits what role on a team. I'm sure there are very few scenarios of modern sports where an owner says you must sign player x and the GM/coach disagree. |

I've heard that the depth is good as well, so perhaps I should reevaluate that. Not sure.
I would love to draft Dahlin and Jack's future winger...but Asplund (to me) is kind of the prototypical decent 2nd rounder. Nothing dazzling but a good addition.
If there's a chance that a player of such caliber IS available there, different story. Just was thinking about the Brendan Lemieux's of the world and how they aren't what the doctor ordered for Jackie Boy. If it's a crap shoot, I'd still lean defense. Higher value, still a position of need and there seem to be a few promising ones that will be there. |

Lemieux is the prototypical player in Murrayland and 2011 LA Kings. He's a mid 3rd rounder today. Based on 2014 projections. |

Wait you want to trade for pick 2 or 3, which would cost a fortune, and then trade that pick (Svech of Zedina) for a pick in the twenties and a few second rounders?

I’d just be worried that a team like ARZ or EDM or VAN, etc would claim them
We claimed Nolan last year
So it does happen
I’d either keep them here or try to trade them in a package
I wouldn’t mind seeing a 3rd line of
Bailey-Mittelstadt-Baptiste - jdfitz77
Nolan was waived early in camp, much different situation.
Remember, if that's your third line, RoR has 90% dzone starts.

Cool.
That's the part that I think is totally unlikely. Makes no sense from a MTL perspective. They're losing their best D man and not replacing it with anything, and giving up their 3rd overall pick?
I don't see how that suits them |
