no prob with the trade as long as we get to see who's still on board at 7, if wahlstrom is still there i would make the pick , otherwise no d in this draft outside of #1 is probably going to be any better and then you add in the development time and our new cores collective ages it makes sense for a 21 yr old D |

Only if they take LE and Gagner as part of the deal.
That's a hard question... I plead the 5th |

I want a RHD first of all, secondly you lose 3 years of ELC. It also depends what type of term Hnifin is willing to take.
The talent level of this years top 10 is questionable, so I haven't fully decided. |

I agree. I wouldn't trade the 7th unless I was at the table and saw who was available. I take Hanifin over Boqvist for sure. I still think we can find a D who will QP the PP at 7 no matter who's taken ahead though. Hanifin isnt a poor producer 5 on 5 at all for what its worth. 10 goals 32 points at 21... some concerns he's not defensively sound... but still has a fair bit of upside.
I think you can do good with Dobson still if Hughes is gone though. Capable on the PP and a natural defensive thinker who only makes a few normal mistakes for a young player. JB still gets his need for speed as well. Hughes or Dobson... if not, Hanifin or Wahlstrom. I can live with all 4 of those names over Tkachuk, Boqvist and Bouchard.

Hughes LHD
Bodqvist >Dobson
Dobson has a top 6 floor and a top 4 ceiling
Bodqvist has a number one ceiling and an echl floor.
I swing for the fences, Dobson is a sage pick, much like OJ, but is unlikely to be a home run.
Hanifin projects better then Dobson but is LHD.
If dahlin, wahlstrom, svech, zadina, Hughes and bodqvist are all off the table then I make the deal. Those are my top 6, Boucher , tchunk and Dobson aren't as good as hanifin will be. |

I can follow this line of thinking easily. Differ a tiny bit on Dobsons safe pick label but only a bit and am a bit shy of Boqvist.

I agree with most except that I think Dobson will have more of an NHL career than Boqvist and if you're picking in the top 10 in the draft, you have to pick someone that has very little chance of busting.
The only way you do the deal for Hanifin for the 7th is if you can also trade one of Gudbranson, Hutton and/or Tanev in a separate deal to open up a spot for him and you get some picks back for them. That's the only way trading the 7th would make sense for the Canucks, you'd need the extra picks to make up for the fact that you're no longer having a first rounder and you hope JB is really good at finding gems in the later rounds to make up for it and that Hanifin can be your #1D with OJ when you start to be able to compete. |

I think Carolina would want more than just the 7th overall. |

Probably, if it even happens, it'd have to be a multi-team deal like the Duchene deal was between Colorado/Nashville/Ottawa. |

I’m cool with it straight up but I’m not adding much to that. If they want Demko or Dahlen added then no thanks. - Nucker101

Carolina was one of the teams, i thought would have been better this year. So i watched them quite a bit to start the season. Hanifin's game reminds me quite a bit like Gardiner.
Like you, I would take him just not for 7OA. 19oa maybe. - manvanfan
It depends who is a available for me...it would be a draft floor deal if our guys are gone |

For sure, if JBs guys are gone and canes is there...that’s the only chance it goes down. |

This is one thing most here are forgetting ....this deal if true would only happen if the guy the canes wanted was still available ...who everyone here wants and might be willing to part with the pick if available is kind of a non issue |

Id do it if Dobson and Whally were gone....still trying to make my mind up on Hughes. Hate boqvist as a prospect and Tkachuks upside is to limited. Side note, everyone that says Dobson’s a safe pick with limited upside are missing the mark. I truly believe he could be a 1D for what it’s worth (which is not much ) |

How is it a non issue? If our guy is there we take him. We don’t need to trade our pick |

Cuz the whole deal would be based on the canes getting their guy ....it’s not like they are are like hey we will give you Hanifan and we get the #7 and we will just take whoever is available .... |

I agree. My buddy coached him back in pee wee and said he was a good kid and super calm / smart with the puck back then too. Kinda obvious.
