Cuz the whole deal would be based on the canes getting their guy ....it’s not like they are are like hey we will give you Hanifan and we get the #7 and we will just take whoever is available ....
- Redmile247

That’s why I said it’s a draft floor trade. If it happens it’s when both teams have determined who is available

Zero surprise reading this. I know GMs who read every word on team chat boards and blogs and comment under aliases.

Colangelo being exposed for allegedly divulging company secrets, though...? Yikes --

I’m officially suspicious of any hardcore Benning supporters in here

Not quite sure I understand the rational behind the Hanifin arguments.

Here's a 6-2, 200 pound 21 year old D man who has progressively improved every season he has played.

Yet, pps wouldn't consider moving the 7th for him Lol? He's already an established top 4 dman with a huge ceiling. To assume that a bag of question marks (Hughes, Boqvist, Dobson, Bouchard) who have never played in the league or for the most part, against grown men project better is insane.

If Benning could get Hanifin for the 7th and change you HAVE to take that deal. The kid is likely already better at 21 than half those D prospects project 10 years down the line.

.@DarrenDreger: I keep hearing more and more, if John Tavares truly enters the market, why wouldn't Vegas be on his short list?

I don't see anything wrong with the Tom Wilson hit?
- LeftCoaster

That's because it was a good, clean hit.

I can follow this line of thinking easily. Differ a tiny bit on Dobsons safe pick label but only a bit and am a bit shy of Boqvist.
- boonerbuck

I think Dodson has a better shot at being a number 4 then boycott, but I think bodqvist HSA better shot at being a top two or bust guy.

I agree with most except that I think Dobson will have more of an NHL career than Boqvist and if you're picking in the top 10 in the draft, you have to pick someone that has very little chance of busting.

The only way you do the deal for Hanifin for the 7th is if you can also trade one of Gudbranson, Hutton and/or Tanev in a separate deal to open up a spot for him and you get some picks back for them. That's the only way trading the 7th would make sense for the Canucks, you'd need the extra picks to make up for the fact that you're no longer having a first rounder and you hope JB is really good at finding gems in the later rounds to make up for it and that Hanifin can be your #1D with OJ when you start to be able to compete.

That's how you get virtanen instead of elhers .
I think hanifin will be a better player then Dobson or Boucher. Plus he fits the age gap, too bad he's a LHD.

Some people in and around the league question his upside and his defensive game, thus the trade rumours, that's why I don't agree with his hype.

Slavin might be just as good at at much lower price, as an example.

Id do it if Dobson and Whally were gone....still trying to make my mind up on Hughes. Hate boqvist as a prospect and Tkachuks upside is to limited. Side note, everyone that says Dobson’s a safe pick with limited upside are missing the mark. I truly believe he could be a 1D for what it’s worth (which is not much )

I don't like that you lose the 3 year ELC. What is he only wants a two year bridge deal.

Plus we have OJ and Sautner as young LHD. Our right side is bad at best.

That's why you make a trade beforehand with Tanev and one of Hutton, Gudbranson, MDZ to open up a spot for him so that he can grow with OJ as our eventual top pair.

I have used the Virtanen hit on Polak, from a couple seasons back, as a measuring stick for suspensions.
Virtanen got 2 games for being a split second late on the hit, very similar to this hit, IMO.
Neither hit deserved a suspension, yet 1 player breaking into league gets suspension, the other doesn't.
I strongly believe that suspension to Virtanen is the reason he is apprehensive on hitting since then.
Zero consistency in this league.
