You want the team to not over achieve.. it's not. It hasnt. Things are moving slow I agree. Should be grabbing more picks but a lot of this complaining about us not being better sure goes against many other arguments you put up. If those moves by Benning are being measured by success... but future success is being measured by finishing low now... then there is a lot of tail chasing going on in the argument.
Only the day dreamers thought this team wasn't going to tread water and hope to draft well during the remaining time the Sedins had left. JB/FA took a shot right away but seem to have accepted the decline in the following seasons. Luckily, we drafted well during this time for the most part. Even with Benning not bringing profit making success(playoffs and excitement) to the owner... FA stuck with him. Trying to win has not been the priority or sucking would have had Benning fired. Drafting has really been his only strength and here he is... resigned. Maybe people have been looking at what's happening from a narrow perspective. This team needed bodies that they couldnt find from within for medium/short term. It doesn't mean they were shooting for immediate success. The moves would have been much bigger rather than hole filling for the most part.
It seems the legit debate has more to do with how many picks Benning goes to the draft with. Agreed wholly. Should have been doing more of this the last couple of seasons. Way too timid when it comes to creating a hole in the lineup to acquire picks. Just fill those holes short term and get some fkn picks already. At least start the post Sedin era off the right way with a tide of youth added to the system. I think after this draft the foundation can mostly be laid and not far from carrying if they just do a repeat of 2017 with the high ratio of prospects shining in their draft +1 boosting odds of being impact players. I also like JB's ability of finding good prospects later in the 1st round down the road when the team has a bubble season or even makes the playoffs.
Hopefully, we see some picks before the draft. The narrative that he didnt does not seem to want to wait though. So many arguments based on what people think is going to happen to the point it's accepted as fact. Always a peev with me.... - boonerbuck
Where did I say I wanted the team to be better during Benning’s first few years?
Meanwhile Dbot just interpreted my post as saying I wanted the team to blow it up
Neither are correct |

A Vantel trade includes 6 teams, 4 different trades and Van ending up with the best value out of every trade. - manvanfan
I gotta admit that is pretty funny! |

I didn't actually say that you wanted to blow it up, although some have certainly advocated this.
I was offering a hypothetical, albeit extreme scenario that would have provided more picks/prospects.
I'm trying to say that Benning was painted into a corner given the team he inherited. It was deemed necessary to fill some holes, while also holding onto some picks.
I know people like to complain, but i think he's doing a pretty good job, given the situation. |

Sorry carol the league is a joke but its working perfectly with the gambling capital and the capital of the US fighting for the bettman cup. I refuse to watch it. |

I’m cool with it straight up but I’m not adding much to that. If they want Demko or Dahlen added then no thanks. - Nucker101
I wouldn't trade 10 in this draft straight up for Hanifin. Overrated.
He's young but after 240 games, i'd expect him to be better. He will probably be the 5th best D in the 2015 draft. |

So I just saw you last response but didn't see any from before. You definitely DID NOT want Gallant, I remember it quite clearly because you are one of few people that will actually talk turkey about coaching strategy and who you did and did not want. So are you pretending you were pro-gallant now? Have a new assessment of him? I honestly just didn't see any other responses but today and am just curious. - neem55
clearly your memory fails you badly
I was pro gallant from the time he left montreal. Even more after being fired from florida. There were others here that did not want him but I wanted him here. If you have some memory of someone being against it you're thinking of someone else

Yeah.
I;m not sure about that offer (7th for Hanafin).
I haven't followed him at all (Carolina bloody Hurricanes)
But he definitely doesn't jump out as the Dman this team has been waiting for...
I'd take him on the team, but would hope he doesn't cost that. |

Carolina was one of the teams, i thought would have been better this year. So i watched them quite a bit to start the season. Hanifin's game reminds me quite a bit like Gardiner.
Like you, I would take him just not for 7OA. 19oa maybe. |

One could argue that he has more experience than most in his age bracket on D and did have an improvement year points wise ...he’s only 21 ....put him with Tanev and see what happens |
