Yeah.....no thanks. I'm not even a huge OJ fan but he's still a top prospect, OJ + 7th alone is huge overpay for Hanifin.
Dougie Hamilton went for less than that and he's better than Hanifin.
Hanifin is a nice offensive dman to have on the 2nd pair, but he's not some game breaker offensively and apparently his defensive game still needs a lot of work. - Nucker101
It does, but man he's only a year older than Juolevi. |

we'll just pay your Dollar Store version of Mark Cuban straight up cash for Hanifin - Nucker101
Throw in a TopGolf in franchise in Vancouver and he probably takes it. |

Yeah, he's still really young and will most likely improve defensively, but I'd still easily pass on OJ + 7th for him. I think you could get more in return for that package.

this is why i voted against tradings the 7th. hanafin would definitely be a massive upgrade to van, but i do think one of the players available at 7 will have similar upside. no need to rush the process by trading valuable draft picks |

Oh easily. One or the other plus a roster player should be fair value, in my HONEST opinion. |

I'd trade the 7th for him straight up. If you're getting similar upside with a dman at that spot why not just trade for a guy who you know isn't a bust and still offers similar upside? That's a no-brainer. The only thing you lose out on is cost-controlled years, but that's a trade off I can live with since this team is desperate for a young top 4 dman. Plus you still have Juolevi in the system and can draft a dman in the 2nd round.
I'm 100% against adding a top prospect to go along with that pick for just Hanifin though. |

id imagine VAN would have to add considerably, especially considering forwards like Pettersson and Gaudette wouldn't be available. OJ and the 7th is a start, maybe throw in another pick or prospect. All depends on what/when hanifin signs for - FinnGod

i think it depends on who they prefer. i think there are some potential gamebreakers that could be available at 7 (who may be similarly deficient in other areas).
it also seems silly to say, but i think hanafin would be such an upgrade over the rest of the defense that he may prevent another bottom 5 finish that the team needs. imo they arent ready to pull out of the tank |

lemme try to clarify my thought better: i think in a top 4 with edler and tanev he would help a lot, but those other two are on their way out and then youve sacrificed high draft picks for a few years that results is less impactful players to replace #23 and #8 in the system |

OJ + a small add should be more than enough for Hanifin. - Retinalz
Nope. Juolevi's stock has fallen hard since he was drafted. And Benning reached for him at #5 to begin with. He's not worth nearly what you think he is
Not only that, but the Canes are stocked with superior young talent on the back end. What they need are forward prospects
Obviously you aren't entertaining offers for Pettersson, so I'd say the 7th overall + one of: Gaudette, Demko, or Lind would get it done
It's steep, but look at the premium placed on top-four d-men these days. Adam freaking Larsson netted a potential Hart Trophy winner. And I realize that was Peter Chiarelli's work, but let's be honest.....if there's a GM in this league who's less competent than Chia, it's Benning

You are going to be disappointed. Adam Larsson was playing top pair, not top 4 offensive D man and that trade was very lopsided for the Devils. I could see the 7th and Lind, but NO way you get Demko too, Gaudette would also be unlikely. The 7th and Lind is still more the Dougie Hamilton got... So that would also be a bad trade for Benning.

I'd love to add Kole Lind.
But man, we have so many prospects at every position right now because of Francis' overstocking. Trading players for picks or guys that won't play this year just doesn't make sense.

I'm not suggesting Demko too. That's why I said "one of"
Lind + 7th overall would be a fair deal for both sides. Might actually favour Vancouver, in this current market |

True. So I wonder if this fact makes Van and Car unlikely trading partners.... |

7+ any of those would be more than he is worth. OJ stock has not fallen as much as people think, though he is not the 5oa he was picked as. I would say he has a 7-10 pick in value. OJ + Gadj would be fair. |
