Through 4 years Ristolainen compares most favorably to Rob Blake. And Pierre Pilote is also on that list, another HOFer. I'm not saying Risto is a HOFer, at all. Just that through 4 years he's had similar seasons to those guys.
People are way too worried about him. A competent partner, not the 4th highest ATOI with longer shifts than the guys at the top of the league. Danny DeKeyser got the same amount of shifts per game but played 6:11 less per game than Risto. Competent forwards that can also play a modicum of defense and he'll be fine. 23 minutes is still borderline 1D minutes, and that would be 3:30 less a game for him. - Wetbandit1
Comparing based on points?

Nylander shot the puck into the netting from inside the blue goal crease at the game I was at.
It was harder to hit the net then miss.
He looked like "he belonged " on a 31st place team - Boss34
If he does not come in shape and dominate this year then I’ll jump on your hate train .
But if he comes to camp in the shape he was last year he’s going to easily make the team and dominate

The team needs second pair defensemen to be successful, too. You're still doing this comparison between "he's not elite" and "he's an absolute bum trade him" - jcragcrumple
Risto used to be the best defenceman on this team. provided he doesn't get hit by a bus and die, Dahlin will be the best defenceman on this team next year.
This will make Risto a really good 2-3 on this team next year.
I dont understand why a guy playing 30 minutes for 5-ish million a year getting downgraded to a 2-3 is a bad thing.
Its actually pretty perfect cap wise and minutes wise.

He wore 8 for Sweden and 26 for Frolunda. I wonder if Nelson would switch if he really wanted 8 or if he'd take 26 or none of the above. |

He will come in shape for camp. That's not the knock on nylander. It's the hockey thing........
I was pretty down on sam last year, just not seeing anything redeeming so far in Alex.

88 is way more BA. Peters and Rivet both doubled their number once making it to the big league. Not the same as Dahlin taking 88, but I guess that’s a thing. |

Lol
I want to like him. I just do not see anything to be hopeful about. Other then:
1. He was the 8th pick
2. Brother and dad are/were good solid nhl players
3. Hes 20 years old and may have been mismanaged on which league he should has been playing in the past 2 years ( maybe)
I rather hear:
Hes fast
He has a great shot
Hes driven
Hes tough
He scores from the greasy spots
He scores |

Lindros
P kane
Dahlin fits the profile.

Willie started ripping up the AHL in year 2. Leafs had no choice, but to call him up. Not so much for Alex.

Yeah, I remember watching that one on tv. Said to my wife that it was like a field goal attempt - he split the uprights and hit the net behind the posts.

It was honestly one of the most absurd things I have ever seen. The way he sat there on the ground and asked for help up.
The guy probably goes into a coma every time he sneezes for Christ's sake. |

Dahlin could easily elevate Risto's game too.
It's a win/win. Either Dahlin and Risto develop chemistry and work as a top pair, or Risto headlines the second pair.

I can totally see him shredding his knee on the steps down off the stage after the Sabres pick him. We're not allowed to have nice things. |
