Pull-ups watch. Giovanni Vallati did one. Alexis Gravel did none. - VANTEL
I’m not saying I personally put a lot of stock into how many pull ups a 17 year old kid can do and what his ultimate potential is, but literally everyone knows this is one of the tests, and unless you were in the Mem Cup final, how could you not be training for the biggest moment of your young life? I would practice doing pull ups until I was the king of pull ups. |

Adam Boqvist listed at 5–11.5 and 165 pounds. Lightest player so far this morning. - VANTEL
Nothing wrong with that, unless you expect him to slot in this coming season. |

Also one of the youngest. A lot of room for growth in his game. |

I like Boqvist. His shot is one of the best on D. His puck movement skills are high end. He does have his red flags but he would be great on the PP in 3-4 years.
No one should be looking to play on the club next year. |

I think upper body strength is important and unless you have amazing other skills I make that one of the more important tests. |

It's going to a awhile before we come across a prospect as awkward as Mittelstadt.
Love that guy. |

Honest question, is Mittlestadt a bust? |

I think most people when they talk about the top drafted prospect not in the NHL
they say either Pettersson or Mittelstadt.
I saw him a few times in the big 10 against michigan and I think he is really good.
I seriously doubt that he busts.

Nils Lund kvist?
Not a lot no. Was really not impressed with him at the u18s. Just all around Avg. Somewhere around 50th pick i'd consider if all those other guys are off the board and Van has a pick there and if they haven't picked a RHD or plan on it later. |

Thanks, I can remember the conversations about him last year but really haven’t heard much of anything lately...Sabres should by all rights have a strong team, they have good talent, strange how they always seem to be bottom place finishers. |

Again, I think a prospect who’s not physically mature yet actually has more upside than a man child
That being said, a skinny kid who’s already testing well iand can add more strength/weight to his frame is more appealing than one who can’t do a single pull up |

Yeah Buffalo should worry about Nylander.
Now that is prospect trending very poorly

His feet won't leave the ground when he has to do chin-ups. |

The only reason is because working out is a HUGE part of being a professional hockey player. Even at 17/18 these players should be able to do a pull up. Not going to not draft a player like Mittelstadt because he can't do a pull up but if he could have done 5. He probably would have went a couple spots higher. It's a "preparation" "work ethic". |

The pull-up test is one of the dumbest for the combine. Realistically, a good prospect (ie Middlestadt) has spent the majority of their time building lower body strength and core muscles to survive; then youre trying to lift that with muscles that are minimally used.
Cardio, balance and jumping tests are really the only ones I see with any impact on the sport. Would rather see squat scores that upper body |

This is why I laugh at the Hughes size worries. Hughes is more durable and a tad heavier than Boqvist.
