Man we need to get much faster you can see the game is evolving back to our Glory Days

I like you man but you got to get this idea out of your head that the team sucked on purpose and the real players are going to show up

Good teams draft well, if we drafted well we wouldn’t be where we are right now.

2017 Opening Roster...those who are likely to NOT RETURN

Player Position Status Age Cap Hit

Evander Kane LW NHL 26 $5,250,000
Matt Moulson LW NHL 33 $5,000,000
Zemgus Girgensons C, LW NHL 23 $1,600,000
Johan Larsson C, LW NHL 25 $1,475,000
Benoit Pouliot LW NHL 31 $1,150,000
Jordan Nolan C, LW, RW NHL 28 $950,000
Jacob Josefson C, LW NHL 26 $700,000
Seth Griffith RW, C NHL 24 $650
Josh Gorges LD NHL 33 $3,900,000
Nathan Beaulieu LD NHL 24 $2
Victor Antipin LD NHL 24 $925,000
Matt Tennyson RD NHL 27 $650,000
Robin Lehner G NHL 26 $4,000,000
Chad Johnson G NHL 31 $2
Justin Falk LD IR 28 $650,000

That’s 15, but includes Girgs and Blow-boy, who have a higher chance of returning (I wouldn’t mind seeing them go myself) and Falk who could be the 7th D
Excluding both non-skating G’s Johnson and Lehner... that leaves about 10 or so

No, you are making this up.

I pointed out the team who will probably win the cup, and three late 1st rounders that they nailed and said draft picks matter.

You pointed out the 31st place teams draft failures as if that doesn't make my point entirely

Washington also drafted Forsberg to then inexplicably trade him

They have drafred an insane amount of talent over the past decade and a half

- sbroads24

And they’ve busted on a number of 1st rounders as well

Need me to list them?

I wonder if Beane and McDermott could consult and sit in with Botts for any free agent interviews or proposed trades. They'll vet the poop out of the character of these guys. Imagine if we brought in some #culturedoesntexist and all the sudden all the players are on the same track, playing consistent and playing for each other. Can you imagine
- TheSabresTaco

No no, Jesus Christ...just bring in talented players...that one aspect fixes EVERYTHING.

Who says this? It's common knowledge that everyone misses. But it's not always about just the 1st round. We've had entire, or almost entire drafts of non NHL players. That will sink a franchise. 2005-2011 was an unmitigated drafting disaster. And even when we got a decent player, we just traded him for nothing. That is exactly why we suck. 2013 was pretty decent, 2014 was pretty bad, 2015 was good (50% hit), 2016 looks 'ok' so far.

See, this is where your understanding of the stealth tank is incorrect.
You need to get that out of your head,, as it’s embarrassing for you to blurt that crap.

NO ONE said they players purposely tanked by knowingly played like crap.
Nope, couldn’t be further off the mark if you tried.

The theory is that management purposely assembled a losing roster, and knowingly sat on its’ hands while the subpar roster was outclassed in 4.5 of 5 games.

Take a look at the roster of players I just listed of those who were on the Sabres tha5 should not return. That is 15 of 23 ...2/3rds of misfit subpar players who played to their subpar capabilities and collectively posted a subpar record.

Pretty easy to understand.

I'd call this a Gerbe comment but I don't even think he would go this far.

Did you ever find it curious that playoff teams trade for veterans for a playoff run? Have you ever wondered why they do that? Why a guy like Brian Gionta at his age can be important to a franchise?

I'm not saying, or even nearly implying, that we should be icing a team of 30 year olds. Your core should be young, especially this core, considering our best players are all under 24. Our top 3 (inc Dahlin) are under 21. Foot speed and puck speed are vital to today's success. Most 30+ year old players don't have the foot speed. What I actually said was veteran presence is important for a very young team like ours. 3 or 4 guys. Not 10.

- TheSabresTaco

Gionta really put the Bruins over the edge this post season. 2 goals in 20 games as a Bruin.

Patrick marleau really put Toronto over the hump.

That's the type of veteran "footspeed"

I'd rather cut ties with the old guys from last year, but hey we are all entitled to an opinion.

I would rather not have these : veteran leaders:
Matt moulson
Josh gorges
Benoit pouliot
Jospensson
Jordan nolan

That didn't really win to many games.

So maybe Gionta is available, I would rather not add his "veteran leadership"

On whether the speculative nature of the draft and the possibility of moving the draft age to 19 or 20:

The NHL Players Association wouldn't capitulate, and the league would need to skip a couple classes to recalibrate, but Dudley insisted the draft would become significantly more efficient if skewed a few years older.

"It would be a much more accurate assessment," Dudley said. "They would be closer to where they would be as NHL players in terms of size and power. These kids develop so much from the time they're 15 to 19.

"It would be better for the sport. If you get three good players out of seven in a draft, you've done very well. If you get one, you've still done OK. If you had a 20- or 21-year-old draft, you would ratchet that up quite a bit."

That's Rick Dudley talking to Tim Graham of the Buffalo News.

Never once mentioned a single one of these players, except Gionta, who I used as an example for a different team. I didn't say, and you're putting words in my mouth, that I want THOSE veterans. And just because those veterans are not good for really any team, that doesn't mean there are not vets on other teams currently that wouldn't fit what the Sabres need, and can be used in bottom 6 situations while providing leadership.

I generally agree...and would prefer to have a solid vet presence as well...as I mentioned above also, needs to be the right guys though.

Why wouldn't they?

What did the 2018 Sabres do to prove they were trying to win?

Bowl u - still here
Bogo ( hopefully) - still here

Chad and lehner - not skaters
