Re the draft:
If we could get Farabee at 14 and Berggren at 19, I would be very happy
I like Kaut a lot, but I'd need a lot more detail on his heart issue before I'd use a first round pick on him.

If Florida was inclined to move James Riemer, would/should the flyers have any interest? Wouldnt be a bad bridge guy until someone else you hope steps up.
What would the cost be roughly?
this assumes the flyers dont go after a top end guy. |

He's got 3 years left at 3.4 million, that's one year too many for me to have any interest in him. Plus I don't think that he's that much of an upgrade to what the Flyers currently have. |

dont think the extra year is a killer. Can help hart along while he is still on his entry deal. So the cost $ wise isnt that high.
I believe he is a an upgrade over Elliot/glass joe; provides more stability. If you acquire him hopefully one of them go the other way.
Just spitballing as they need to upgrade that area. |

I have 4 I want at 14 if there and if the Flyers stay there:
Farabee
Veleno
Dobson
Kotkaniemi
At 19 I think i would take Miller because I think he has potential star impact skills on the back end if he has time to develop which the Flyers can give him.
OR we can do this:
To Calgary: 14, Leberage
To Philly: Sam Bennett
To Winnipeg: Simmonds
To Philly: Trouba
Draft Miller at 19
To Detroit: 50, Jordan Weal
To Philly: 36(draft Jonatan Berggren)
Boom. WINNING. |

I don't find a third year (on the right guy) to be an issue. Hart (or whoever) may take a little longer than two years to be ready to assume the role. |

Re 14:
Love Dobson, but I think there is next to no chance he's still on the board at 14. Farabee would be great and could still be available. I like Kotkaniemi as well and would be fine with him at 14. Veleno is very talented but he seems to be lacking the hockey sense needed to be an impact player in the NHL, he's not a guy I'd be interested in at 14 or probably even at 19, there are at least 20 other guys I like better right now.
I'd be fine with any of Miller, Berggren or even Kravtsov at 19, I think they all have legit potential to be excellent players.
Re your trade proposals:
I like Sam Bennett but probably not enough to send the 14th pick for him, I'd offer the 19th pick and an older prospect like Vecchione instead.
If Winnipeg is willing to swap a 24 year old Trouba straight up for a soon to be 30 year old Simmonds, I'd make that deal in a heartbeat. Better yet, I'd see if I could add Gudas to the deal (they need to move a Dman if one is coming back) and ask for a 2nd round pick in 2019 from Winnipeg.
At this point, I think Weal has basically no value at all. I can't see any team that is going to be willing to fall 14 spots back in the 2nd round, just to add Weal to their roster.

I am starting to think Dobson could be the 2nd dman taken after Dahlin. I think the memorial cup helped him.
The trades were more tongue in check joking but not joking. I would see about bennett as I think he could fit right into the 3rd line center and maybe move to wing if needed once Vorobyev or Frost are here.
Trouba would be great to add to the top 4 for this team and again the age works.
Draft: More and more I like Miller. With the Flyers having a young defense it allows them time to really give him time to develop.

FWIW, here are my top 20 2018 NHL draft prospects as of today. While the top 3 haven't changed in months, I've been constantly tweaking the rest of the bunch and this list will likely change a bit between now and draft day.
1. Dahlin (duh)
2. Svechikov
3. Zadina
4. Wahlstrom
5. Hughes
6. Tkachuk
7. Dobson
8. Farabee
9. Ty Smith
10. Boqvist
11. Kotkaniemi
12. Bouchard
13. Kravtsov
14. Berggren
15. Hayton
16. Sandin
17. Miller
18. Lundestrom
19. Denisenko
20. Veleno

No interest in Reimer. Elliott is fine as a bridge until one of the younger prospects can take over.

What’s the highest 1st round pick that Simmonds could get straight up 1-for-1?? |

I can see that.
I do get the feeling the Flyers will pull something kind of stunning like the Schenn trade last year. Simmonds maybe. Could Laughton be used to maybe make a deal and get back a similar aged player. Maybe guys needing a change in scenery? I wouldn't be surprised to see Gudas gone.

I mean the Bruins got the 13th pick+ for (frank)ing Milan Lucic, but I can't imagine Simmonds gets you that high of a draft pick. I also don't know what I'm talking about soooooo |

Hockey sense. Hughes just seems to be able to make smarter decisions and make them faster than Boqvist. That's huge at the NHL level.
edit: Ty Smith is a guy that's really grown on me recently. He's used in all situations and succeeds in all as well. He's not the tallest guy but he has a thick build, is a very good skater, highly skilled and very smart. He has potential to be a player similar to Kimmo Timonen, IMO. |
